Stovetop Grilled Cabbage Steaks with Bacon Recipe
Nothing is better on the dinner table than real food cooked from scratch. Our Stovetop Grilled Cabbage Steaks with Bacon are not only delicious, but they are also easy to prepare.
Grilled Cabbage Steaks are good anytime of year and can be grilled inside or outside. My preference is for stovetop grilling inside, using one of my favorite kitchen tools, a stovetop griddle.
Cabbage is a green vegetable we love at our house. I have several recipes that feature cabbage as part of the meal. Scroll down to see the list.

Bacon and cabbage go together like peanut butter and jelly. In this recipe, I cook them side by side so the bacon flavors the cabbage. Want to cook the bacon separately? Use this Baked Bacon recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 medium head of cabbage
- 6 pieces of bacon
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Kitchen Tools Used
- Stovetop Griddle, like this one
- Tongs or a Spatula for turning
Recipe Directions
Step 1
Slice the cabbage into about 1/2 inch thick pieces, ‘steaks.’ They need to be thick enough not to fall apart when you flip them over.
Step 2
Place your cabbage steaks on the preheated cooking surface. Season with salt and pepper.
*If using the stovetop griddle, you can cook your bacon strips and cabbage steaks side by side. I prefer to cook these cabbage steaks on my stovetop griddle.
**If you are not cooking the bacon alongside the cabbage steaks, you will want to spray your griddle surface with non-stick cooking spray.
Step 3
Cook on medium-high heat. Cook for about 10 minutes, then carefully turn each cabbage steak over and cook on the other side. You may want to adjust the cook time to your preference of doneness. We like them with a little brown on the outside.
Step 4
Remove the cabbage steaks from the griddle and place them on a serving platter. Enjoy!

What to serve with Cabbage Steaks
Homemade cornbread is always good served with cabbage.
When eating fresh vegetables, it is always good to combine more fresh veggies with them. So, I like to cook these Basil Grilled Tomatoes on the griddle after the cabbage steaks are done.

Pinning your recipe to try. I love cabbage, but have never had it this way before. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year Shirley!
I love cabbage any way you cook it – or just raw in cole slaw and salads. I have grilled cabbage in foil before on the outside grill, but I’ve never had grilled cabbage steaks on the griddle. I’m going to try your recipe ASAP. I need to grab a head of cabbage at the grocery store this week.
I share your love for cabbage. I’ll eat it just about any way it can be cooked except for sauerkraut. Cabbage and cornbread is a favorite winter meal in our house and now these Grilled Cabbage Steaks are too.
