How To Cook Bacon In The Oven
You need to know how to cook bacon in the oven because it’s easier, less clean up and gives you nice crisp bacon. Plus you can cook a lot more bacon at one time when you are cooking for a crowd.
Picture this, you are making a nice big breakfast for the family on Sunday morning. You have grits slow cooking on one front burner and are about to fry some eggs on the other front burner. Do you really want to fire up those back burners too and have to reach back there? I sure don’t. Cooking a big breakfast is a tiny bit like a mini Thanksgiving meal. You need the oven to work for you too. Bake the bacon, it comes out nice and crisp every time.

Tools
- Large baking sheet pan with sides, like this one
- Parchment paper, like this brand from Amazon
Directions
Preheat your oven to 400°. Line your large baking pan with parchment paper.

Place the bacon slices side by side on top of the parchment paper.
Set the pan of bacon into the preheated oven on the middle rack. Now, set your timer for about 18 minutes for thick sliced bacon. Set the timer for 12 minutes for thin sliced bacon.

Cooking times will vary if you want your bacon more crispy or less crispy. So I recommend you start checking on the bacon at about the 10 minute mark. Remove it from the oven when it is as crispy as you prefer.

Once your bacon is done to your desired crispiness, remove from the oven. Using tongs, place each slice of bacon onto a paper towel lined plate or platter to absorb the excess grease. You could also use a paper towel to dab the tops of each slice of bacon to remove excess grease.

Why should you save bacon grease?

Do not throw away the bacon grease left in the pan. It’s like liquid gold for seasoning vegetables. Use a quart size Mason jar, preferably wide mouth to store bacon grease. Keep the jar in the refrigerator once the grease has completely cooled.
