Making a Breast Cancer Ornament has been on my Christmas to-do list for several years. So I’m thrilled to finally check it off!
My niece is currently battling breast cancer. She is very bravely sharing her journey here including daily battles and victories. I lost my Mom to breast cancer in 2013 after almost one year to the date of her third diagnosis. I shared my story here. It’s one of the reasons I started this blog as an outlet for myself. Almost everyone has been touched in some way by breast cancer or some other nasty form of cancer.
This simple DIY Ornament was the most fun to make because I got to use several of the toys, I mean tools in my craft room! I already had everything so there was no cost involved for me.
Shopping For Dollar Tree Blanks
Dollar Tree is a busy place and if you don’t get there early in the season, you could miss out of many of the popular supplies. There are a plethora of blanks you can buy at Dollar Tree to use with your cutting machine. What’s the solution to avoid missing out? Shop online, pick up in store or have it delivered to your home.

Supplies & Tools for making Breast Cancer Awareness Ornament
- Large Shatterproof see-through ball ornament (Dollar Tree)
- White craft tissue paper shredded
- Pink and White Embroidery Thread
- Heart hole punch
- Pink Vinyl (from Cricut here)
- Cricut Maker or other cutting machine
- Ribbon Hole Punch (if you don’t have a cutting machine)
The first thing I did was to make the pink ribbons which I did using Cricut Design Space. A quick check of Amazon revealed you can buy a Ribbon Hole Punch like this one. Check the size in conjunction with your project. My Pink Ribbons are about 2 inches tall.
Making the Hearts
A 1″ Heart hole punch is what I used to make my little hearts near the bottom of the ornament. They are very small so it was hard to see the tiny little side to pull the vinyl from it’s backing.
Trying to see the tiny little vinyl hearts gave me an opportunity to use the magnifier on my Ott Lite! I told you this project allowed me to enjoy so many of my craft room tools.
So far with this project I have played with my Cricut, a fun hole punch and shredded craft tissue paper! The craft room is my happy place.
Shred White Paper
Now shred a bunch of white tissue paper. Stuff as much of the shredded paper as you can into the ornament. I used the eraser end of a pencil to stuff the shredded tissue into the ornament.
The white inside of the ornament will allow the pink decor to be more prominent once it is hanging on the Christmas tree.
Next stick the Pink Ribbons and Hearts onto the sides of the ornament. Stick on vinyl is a fabulous medium to work with in the the craft room. It’s quick and easy to apply and forgiving if you need to pull it back off to re-position.
Make The Tassel
Last I made a simple tassel using pink and white embroidery thread. The tassel gave the ornament a little more pizzazz, don’t you think?
That is it! Stuff it, stick on the decor, hang a tassel and you are done. No glue, no paint. This Breast Cancer Awareness Ornament is quick, easy and cheap to make!

This is beautiful! I am so sorry to hear about your mom. My mom and sister are both breast cancer survivors but the idea of the cancer returning is always on our minds. I should make us all one of these ornaments to go on our trees.
