This is another super easy craft idea you can use for the Christmas season. In fact if you like to match decor for any season, this idea is adaptable.

Supplies:

  • Fabric (leftover from previous project)
  • Dollar Store Dish Towel
  • Matching Thread

This is a small sewing project which is pretty much my specialty when it comes to sewing. I did get brave and make this Supermom Apron for my daughter! It warms my heart that she enjoys wearing it.

Let’s make our Dollar Store dish cloth into matching Christmas decor!

Decide how wide you prefer the fabric design to be on your dish towel. Then cut to fit. Be sure to cut slightly larger to allow for a hem, usually about a one fourth to a half inch.

After cutting the fabric, I ironed down the hem and placed the piece on the towel to pin it down for sewing. Notice the waffle weave pattern is not straight. This is quite likely the reason these dish towels are at the Dollar store.

Use your handy dandy Sewing Gauge with Sliding Marker to measure the correct distance for placement of your fabric on both ends. Then pin, pin, pin. Now you are ready for the sewing machine.

My sewing machine is a Singer Patchwork with lots of pretty embroidery type stitches to choose from. I decided to use one that looks a lot like a star for this project just to jazz it up a bit. A word of caution when using those embroidery stitches, the bobbin will run out quickly.

My red plaid accented dish towel matches the Snowman and Cone Christmas Tree I made for the breakfast nook Hot Cocoa Bar. It was fairly easy to match our kitchen area plaid Christmas decor with these three DIY projects.

  1. Such an amazing idea! I do use quite a lot of dollar dish towels for the house, so I know they’ve got the potential ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m definitely going to give this a try. Thanks Shirley!

  2. Yep, you’re right about the quality of the towels and until now, I never considered buying any but THIS is such a great idea! I sew but I bet if someone doesn’t, they could just use iron on fusible web tape to attach the fabric.

We enjoying hearing from you!
