DIY Plaid Cone Christmas Tree

Our Plaid Cone Christmas Tree is one of those ‘if I can do this, you can too’ kind of DIY projects. Seriously, you won’t craft anything much easier. You are only limited by your own imagination when it comes to decorating a Cone Christmas Tree.

December’s theme is Holidays. Each blogger chooses their own craft to make as long as it shines and is holiday themed.

My project for December this year is a Plaid Cone Christmas Tree which will be used next to my Hot Cocoa Bar in our breakfast nook. This is one of the easiest craft projects you could possibly do and you can betcha I’ll be making more!

Supplies

• 1/4 Yard Red and Black Plaid Fabric (Joann’s)
• Cardboard Cone Tree
• Mod Podge
• E6000
• Silver Pom Pom Christmas Pick

Remove the Pom Pom from the stem. I lucked up and found exactly what I was looking for to use as a tree topper at Hobby Lobby. It was located on the aisle with all the Christmas picks. Don’t you just want to take so many of those picks home with you? I do!

Wrapping the fabric around the cone is super easy. My advise is to have a larger piece than you need. I’d rather have too much than not enough. 

All I did was paint on the Mod Podge and pull the fabric gently onto it continuously until the cone was covered. The process took less than 2 minutes.

Trim the excess from the bottom. Then make slits all the way around as shown above. Dab on some Mod Podge then smooth each piece on until the bottom is completely glued down.

I left the very bottom uncovered so my cone tree would sit flat.

The last thing to do is glue the silver blingy pom pom onto the top of the tree. I used E6000 for that job.

We are loving our Plaid Cone Christmas Tree as part of the breakfast nook decor. 

The entire vignette will be revealed in a few days as part of our Hot Cocoa Bar this year. We have splashes of plaid all through the house this year for the first time. Our tree is decorated with red and gold balls along with some family favorite ornaments and a red and gold plaid ribbon. You can see the tree here.
