HOW TO MAKE THIS ADORABLE ADVENT CALENDAR
SUPPLIES (affiliate links included)
Advent Calendar Box found here
Mod Podge found here
Pretty Craft Paper found here or the craft store
Embellishment for the top (Mine is from the craft store)
Stick on Christmas numbers (craft store)
That is all you need, 5 things and you don’t really have to add an embellishment to the top. You can use something from you Christmas decor stash to dress up the top if you like. Do I sound cheap? It’s a frugal living idea, right.
I’m sharing two choices of pretty drawer covers for decorating your own Christmas Countdown box.
My choice is the craft paper because I like the uniformity created by using matching papers all the way across the front.
My selections are bright fun Christmas colors in matching patterns I found at one of my favorite craft stores. Have you seen the untold supply of craft papers to choose from, an entire aisle of them! It is a Scrap Booker’s dream.
Paper crafts are always fun and simple. You mostly use paper, scissors and glue. It takes me back to school art days and fond memories.
GO HERE to Download these free Advent Calendar printable’s courtesy of fun365 by Oriental Trading. If you look close, you can tell there are two options. One is more of the orange red and the other is a more true red. You will also see their version of the decorated Advent Calendar Box also along with more DIY Christmas ideas.
My unfinished box came from Oriental Trading, the link is in the supply list. You will also see these unfinished boxes at the craft supply store during the holiday season. Those tend to be more wide and less tall with 5 drawers across. I like my tall one because it takes up less space on the counter.
CUTTING THE PAPER
Turn your paper over so the back side is up. Using a pencil, draw a line around each box to create a template. I actually created a template for each box because it is unlikely there are not minor differences in the way they were cut. It really didn’t take long.
You will see below how I kept them all lined up properly to be glued on.
APPLYING THE GLUE
Mod Podge is one of my favorite crafting mediums. It is so easy to use and dries super fast. It can also be used to create a large variety of DIY projects for any occasion.
For this project you will brush on the Mod Podge and then apply your cut paper to fit. Press firmly and allow to dry.

STAYING ORGANIZED
As previously mentioned, I cut the paper separately for each box so it would fit properly. In order to keep them straight, I place them in rows on a my fancy holder aka, a notebook which was handy.
As I applied the decorative papers, I placed each box back into it’s slot on the box.
ADDING THE NUMBERS
My cute little Christmas theme numbers were found at the craft store too. Isn’t that place such fun! I am a big fan of quick and easy and I am not ashamed to use the stick-on craft decor items available to make life easier.
As a matter of fact, go here to see how I decorated this cute Red Wagon carrying Farm Fresh Christmas Trees. I used peel-off stick-on letters and it turned out beautiful.
How cute is that! I love it and I know that my grandchildren will enjoy their new Christmas Countdown Calendar this year. One of my grandson’s has already informed me that every one of those little boxes should be filled with nothing but Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Guess what his favorite candy is.

Your fun and colorful advent calendar just makes me happy! Love the bright holiday colors and patterns. I want your craft store – never saw this fun stuff at mine. Too cute about the peanut butter cups – the boys got good taste. LOL
This is really cute and decorative! My youngest is 16, but he informed me that he wouldn’t be disappointed if I did an advent calendar for him! I have always like the ones with the little “drawers”. I may have to make one for him!
This is such a clever idea to make a DYI advent calendar and the scrapbook paper looks so festive and fun!
I’m with your grandson! Reese’s are the best! Such a cute advent calendar that will become a treasure!
This screams holly jolly Christmas & I love it! The scrapbook paper aisle is one of my favorites at the craft store. I want to go find those star stickers now, they are too cute and easy is always good.
