Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt Game Printable
Are you looking for a fun game for your annual family Christmas party? Grab this printable Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt.
Going on a Christmas lights scavenger hunt is a fun way to see Christmas lights and make a family game out of it simultaneously. Print as many copies of the list of Christmas lights as you need.
We played this Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt as a prelude to our annual family Christmas party (to get the excitement started early) and it was a big hit!
Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt Game
We played our scavenger hunt game as a family competition and used a Facebook group to share the photos all week as we found each thing on the list.
You can have everyone use their Smartphones to snap pictures of the displays or not. You can take their word for it if you like. Can you trust everyone to be fair in your family games? ~wink~

Rules and GamePlay
Items needed
- A printed copy of the Christmas light scavenger hunt list, free printable below
- Smartphone for taking and sending pictures
- Social media event page (Facebook or Instagram make it very easy to upload pictures and have an ongoing conversation) This is not required, only one idea for sharing pictures live during the Scavenger hunt.
Optional way to share photos for scavenger hunt
- Create a group text and have everyone send their pictures to it. You will know in real-time who found all of the things and everyone can share where to find the best Christmas lights displays.
How to Play
Decide if you want to play your scavenger hunt completion in one night. We started the game about a week before our family Christmas party.
We created an event page on Facebook where everyone could upload pictures as they found the items on the list.
I kept track of everyone’s progress myself but they can also see each other’s progress on the event page. (It is entirely possible that a very competitive person will wait and upload all of their pictures at one time if you do it this way)
Variation: You can make the rules however you wish to suit your crowd. If you want to pick teams and all load up into vehicles and head out to do it all in one night, you can!
Because we did our family scavenger hunt game competition over a week’s time, there were text messages flying, ramping up the competition for the whole week! By the time we had our party, there was lots of laughter and fun to be had.
An added twist to the competition
If you really want to make it competitive, wait until the day of the party to release a couple of additions to the list so that everyone has to find those items on the way to the party.
Let the Christmas light hunting begin and have a great time together. You can make your scavenger hunt for Christmas a family tradition.
Grab the Christmas lights pdf below. Print as many as you like.
