Ingredients
Simple ingredients you can find at your grocery store. This holiday recipe is ready in minutes.
- 6 cups popped popcorn
- 1 bag (10 ounces) white chocolate chips or melting chips
- 1 bag (10 ounces) milk chocolate chips or melting chips
- ¼ cup crushed peppermints
Instructions
Step 1
Pop the popcorn.
Divide the freshly popped popcorn between two large mixing bowls. Remove any unpopped kernels. Set aside.
Step 2
Prepare two large baking sheets with parchment paper for easy clean-up. If you are out of parchment paper, you can use non-stick spray.
Step 3
Crush your peppermint candies and set them aside.
How To Crush Peppermint Candy
There are multiple ways to crush peppermints. You can use your food processor which is a nice easy method. Place candy canes into a large ziplock bag then cover with a towel and use your rolling pin, meat mallet, or hammer to crush the candy.
Step 4 Melting the chocolates
In a microwave-safe bowl place the white melting chocolate and melt in the microwave for 1 minute, using 15-second intervals. Stir every 15 seconds. Continue until melted and smooth.
Step 5
Add a spoon of crushed peppermint to the bowl of melted white chocolate and stir to blend.
Step 6
Pour the melted white chocolate with peppermints over one bowl of popcorn and stir to cover well. Continue stirring until all of the popcorn is well coated with melted white peppermint chocolate.
Step 7
Now pour your candy-coated popcorn out onto your lined baking sheet and spread it into a single layer. Sprinkle more crushed peppermints over the top.
Optional
You can also use festive sprinkles, like these if you would like to make this holiday treat even more fun.
Step 8
Repeat the process with the milk chocolate.
Last Step
Allow both batches of peppermint popcorn to cool completely on the cookie sheet. Then break the sweet treat into bite-size pieces and serve.
Tips
- You can pop your own popcorn stovetop or air popper. If using microwave popcorn use a “natural” popcorn, preferably white, to avoid that heavy yellow color which will affect how pretty your popcorn bark is.
- For a Salty-Sweet option for this popcorn lightly sprinkle with sea salt before coating with chocolate.
- Drizzle melted white chocolate over the milk chocolate popcorn bark and vice versa.
How To Store Peppermint bark popcorn
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week. Best if eaten within 2-3 days.
You might like to package portions in a ziplock bag for each individual so they can grab a snack anytime.
Store your double batch in a big airtight container and serve in a big bowl while watching your favorite Christmas movies. See my Christmas With The Kranks movie night for two ideas.
