As a brand ambassador for Oriental Trading, we happy to share products we have received with ideas you can use. All opinions are our own.
We’re excited to share with you our easy Football Party Ideas and our 3 Ingredient Crockpot Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings recipe.
Football season is almost like having an entire party season around our house. We love going to high school games, watching the SEC on Saturdays and the NFL on Sunday afternoons. That’s why we have our own collection of favorite football party food, doesn’t everyone, and why we’re so happy to share our easy to plan football party with you.
What’s your favorite thing about football season? Is it the food, the game or the fellowship with friends? We love it all.
If you haven’t been to a high school football game, you have no idea what you are missing! It is always best to arrive about two hours early not only to get a good seat but the festivities begin long before kickoff. You wouldn’t want to miss the pregame ceremonies, traditions and formalities taking place on the field.
Maybe you’re perched in front of the big screen on Saturday’s cheering on your alma mater. You can find us most Sunday afternoons, Monday nights and sometimes on Thursday nights too watching NFL. I wish the football season was as long as basketball season. However you prefer to watch football, you have to have at least one party every season, right!
You’ll need a few easy recipes and some reusable party decorations like our Football Stadium Cupcake Holder, Football Hanging Paper Lanterns and those cute little Football Stress Balls which are especially nice to have if you’re watching college games!
I made the football sucker can by simply spray painting an empty vegetable can with brown paint. After it dried I painted on the stripe with a small brush and white paint. I had all of these supplies in my craft room so no purchase was made for this simple piece of table decor. I stuffed a yellow cloth napkin in to resemble the penalty flag and filled it with our We’re #1 Finger Shaped Suckers.
Food doubles as decor when served in fun party containers like these we found at Oriental Trading.
Cupcakes are a classic dessert and so easy to make. You can’t resist making cupcakes when they become your party table centerpiece using the Large Football Stadium Cupcake Stand from Oriental Trading.
I used boxed mix for the cupcakes. The icing is made with vanilla canned frosting which I tinted green. FYI, it takes a whole lot of green food coloring to get the right shade of green. I piped it on using a #131 drop flower tip. The trick is to pull up quickly and allow the end of the frosting to trail tall like grass. Of course if you have a grass tip, just say Yay!
Those Football Character Cookies are too adorable and really easy to make. Won’t they be fun food and decor at your next football party!
How To Make Football Character Cookies
Creme filled vanilla cookies (We use these)
1 Cup Milk chocolate chips
1/2 Cup Vanilla cake frosting
Small tube of red writing icing
1 Tbsp. shortening
Line a sheet pan with waxed paper.
Melt the chocolate and shortening in the top of a double boiler. The double boiler works best because it takes a few minutes to coat all the cookies and the process would be interrupted if you had to keep melting the chocolate again and again in the microwave as it hardens quickly. The addition of the shortening helps to thin out the chocolate and create the shine.
We made 8 each; footballs, players and referee’s. Coat the cookies according to the picture for your desired number of each character.
Use a toothpick inserted into the creme center as a holder for coating the footballs. Spoon the chocolate over allowing it to drip off. Unless you just want to, it isn’t necessary to coat both sides.
Coat each cookie halfway up to make the players. You need to leave room to create their helmets.
Coat each cookie 2/3 of the way up to make the referees. Use a toothpick to dab a little chocolate ‘hair’ onto each referee’s head.
Place the pan of cookies into the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to cool and set.
We used a #3 round cake decorating tip and vanilla cake frosting to pipe on all the stripes and make the helmets. After piping the helmet, use the tip of a toothpick to spread the icing and make the helmet solid.
Writing icing is available at the grocery store in the cake decorating section. We used red but you may enjoy using your team colors to make the football player jersey numbers. Writing icing comes in a small tube with a tip suitable for piping.
To make the eyes, pipe two small drops of white icing and then use the tip of a toothpick to dab the chocolate into the center of each eye.
Place your Character Football Cookies back into the refrigerator to chill the icing and they are ready to eat! You can make these a day or two ahead of your party to save time. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
