Kitchen Cleaning Supplies
Begin the deep cleaning process by gathering your kitchen cleaning supplies.
- Oven cleaner
- All-purpose disinfectant, I use this one or this one
- Dish detergent, this is my favorite brand
- Soft Scrub gel cleanser, for sink and stove-top
- Reusable Rubber Cleaning Gloves, like these
- Non-scratch scrub sponges, like these
- Cleaning cloths
How To Deep Clean The Kitchen
Begin
Start at the top and work your way down so do the cobwebs on the ceiling and wall corners first.
Let the dishwasher do part of the work
Next, go ahead and gather up all the things you can put in the dishwasher. This will include your light fixture covers which are on the ceiling so still work from the top down.
You want to go ahead and run the dishwasher so that it will be done when you are. You can put all of those things back where they belong before leaving this kitchen cleaning project.
12 Things in the kitchen you can put in the dishwasher
Back to the old saying “Work smarter, not harder”. Let’s put the dishwasher to work for us. Load it with any or all of these things to save yourself some time.
- Switch plate cover & Outlet covers
- Vent hood filters & covers (check your manufacturer’s directions first)
- Stove-top drip pans
- Glass canisters (not the rubber gaskets)
- Coffee carafe (top rack)
- Glass lighting globes/covers
- Salt & Pepper shakers (dry completely before use)
- Trash can lid
- Floor vent grate
- Dish scrubbers
- Sink stoppers
- Stove knobs (I put them in the silverware tray)
Some of these items will need to go on the top rack in the dishwasher, light switch plates and light globes.
Major appliances
The major appliances include the stove with oven cleaning, and cleaning the refrigerator inside and out.
You may choose to do the major appliances all in one day. I’m not such a glutton for punishment so I do the stove one Saturday and the refrigerator/freezer the next.
Kitchen counters
When you get to the counters, start on the left of the stove and work your way around the room.
Pull everything away from the walls and clean behind those things. For instance, move the Air Fryer away from the wall to clean under and behind it. Then wipe down the outside of the small appliance and put it back into place.
Don’t forget to wash anything and everything you keep sitting out on your counters such as canisters, picture frames, lamps, small appliances, etc.

This is a great list! What would make it even better is if I had a dish washer to use to clean all the things instead of doing it by hand ๐ I am going to have to use this list when I do my deep cleaning this fall! Thank you for sharing with us at #ThrowbackThursday we hope to see you again this week!

Hi Shirley,
Great list. You make it all seem so do-able! It’s funny how it never occurred to me that you can put other things in the dishwasher. (smack on head) Thanks for linking up to our Tips & Tricks this week. I know you will be helping a lot of people with this info.

Oh it took me YEARS to realize I could put things other than dishes and cookware in the dishwasher! So glad you found that helpful!
Great list! One time-saver tip I have is regarding the top of your cabinets (if your cabinets don’t go all the way to the ceiling). It can get really grimy up there! I used to use brown paper I picked up at Lowes in a 12″ roll to line the top of the cabinets. When detail cleaning time comes around I’d just toss that wipe down the edges and put down fresh paper. Now I use some old placemats which I just wash and put back in place. Either works great.
I put all kinds of things in the dishwasher – candle holders, toothbrush holders, soap dishes, the shower caddy, the laundry detergent scoop, any glass (not china) decorative containers that will fit, etc.
Thanks for your extensive list!
LOVE that idea of putting the paper on the top of the cabinets! It does get grimy up there too.
I put things from all over the house in my dishwasher too, including the toothbrush holders!
A comprehensive list – when can you come to my house LOL:) Thank you for sharing and linking up with us at #WednesdaysWisdom.
