Ingredients for Creamy Chocolate Mousse Recipe
Heavy cream gives this mousse recipe it’s rich creamy texture.
Use Semi-sweet chocolate chips or baking chocolate and for best results, use a good quality brand.
Granulated sugar, you are welcome to cut back on the sugar if you like but remember, it’s dessert.
Only 2 large eggs which will make a nice thick creamy mousse.
How To Make Chocolate Mousse
- We begin by melting the chocolate, in a heavy boiler with one cup of heavy cream over medium-low heat. Stir constantly until the chips have melted and then remove from heat and set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar using a hand mixer on medium speed for about 3 minutes.
3. Continue to mix at medium speed while adding the melted chocolate mixture slowly until combined.
4. Then pour it all back into the same pot you used to melt the chocolate and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
5. Remove from heat and cool for about 15 minutes then chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
6. After your chill time in the refrigerator, whip the remaining heavy cream using a hand mixer until stiff peaks form. Then fold in the chilled chocolate mixture until completely combined. Your mousse should be fluffy.
7. Spoon your chocolate mousse into serving dishes and top with a small dollop of whipped cream and a cherry for a pretty dessert.
NOTE for making a day ahead
If you want to make your chocolate mousse a day ahead, store it in the refrigerator, covered. When ready to serve, spoon into your individual serving dishes and then add the dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top.
