Homemade Mushroom Onion Burgers

Begin with our best homemade burger recipe made from scratch and craft a delicious Homemade Mushroom Onion Burger for grilling goodness.
Grilling season means we will all break out our grills; some are table top, some are fancy schmancy but all will yield a flavor packed taste bud delight. Our homemade burgers are an easy recipe without using an overwhelming number of ingredients.

How To Cook The Mushroom and Onions
- One large sweet onion preferably Vidalia Onion
- One package of sliced Portobello mushrooms
- 1/2 stick unsalted butter
Begin these homemade burgers by searing and simmering portobello mushrooms and sliced sweet onions.
In a skillet, melt half stick of butter.
Add the mushrooms and onions
Season with a sprinkle of salt.
Cook on medium high heat with the lid on for about the first 5 minutes.
Remove the lid and simmer stirring often until tender.

Grill the burgers about 5 minutes on each side or until the juices run clear for well done burgers. Cooking time will vary depending on if you are using a gas or a charcoal grill and how high your heat is.
Just before removing the burgers from the grill, top with Provolone cheese slices and allow to melt slightly.

Preparing the Burger Buns
Slather some butter onto the inside of the buns and grill them for just a quick minute for an even more memorable homemade burger experience.
Prepare the Toppings
Always rinse your lettuce and allow to dry on paper toweling before using. I do this first before preparing anything else.
Slice your tomatoes thin which is much easier to do using a mandolin. See our list of Tools For Grilling below.
Crafting The Burger
Place lettuce, sliced tomato then the cheesy grilled burger onto the bottom bun.
Scoop a generous helping of mushrooms and onions onto top of the burger and add ketchup and mustard if you like.
Cover with the buttery grilled top bun and enjoy!
Lean ground beef makes the best homemade burgers. I generally buy 85% lean ground beef.

- Charcoal Grill
- Gas Grill
- Mandolin for slicing veggies thin
- Large bowl

I was craving a Mushroom Swiss burger and ordered one from McDonalds. Yours looks a hundred times better. I’m pinning it.

I love the flavor of mushroom but not the texture so I think this is a burger I would love!
