7 Useful Ways To Repurpose Jars
I am always looking for ways to repurpose or upcycle things that may not break down in the landfill. We recycle but if we can repurpose items for household use, we do that first.
Along with repurposing jars, I curated this list of 31 Common Household Items To Repurpose. My personal favorite is number three as I am still using it years later.
I remember my cousin telling me once that she hoped she never had to wash out a Ziploc bag to reuse it. Our Grandma was known for washing out a Ziploc bag and reusing a piece of aluminum foil. That was years ago before the economy fell in 2008. Since then, we have also survived the Pandemic of 2020 and the financial hardships it left behind.
WHY WE NEED TO REPURPOSE
- Economical. Repurposing and upcycling save money on items we might otherwise be tempted to buy. When I needed my kitchen junk drawer organized to save my sanity, I used empty food boxes. It turned out great! No spending on plastic bins!
- Creative. You get to explore your creativity! You get to personalize your solutions. I made this outdoor solar light by upcycling an old floor lamp. It was fun whimsical decor in bright colors of my choice and a conversation piece for us.
- Environmentally friendly. We can all reduce our carbon footprint and keep things out of the landfill by using clever ways to repurpose common household items. One way to repurpose an empty tissue box is to make bookmarks, like these. We use our dryer lint by stuffing it into empty toilet paper rollers and using it for a fire starter.
- Clever and Unique Home Decor. You can even repurpose home decor. See how I turned these fall pumpkins into winter snowmen to decorate my front porch for Christmas.
