Nothing says fall flavors like an apple dessert and this Apple Dump Cake is made with only three simple ingredients.

Apple Dump cake is a recipe you can memorize quickly. There are only three simple ingredients involved in baking this delicious fall dessert.

I recently purchased a Dump Cake recipe book at the library’s old book sale. I love going to the old book sale and I always head straight to the Recipe book section. There are more dump cake recipes in the near future at my house. ~wink~

You do not need a mixer or a bowl. There will precisely be no bowls to wash once your apple cake with cake mix goes into the oven. This easy 3-ingredient apple dump cake recipe bakes in the iron skillet and I think that adds a rustic touch to this fall dessert.

It is kind of like an Apple Pie Dump Cake because I use two cans of apple pie filling from the grocery store. My recipe for Slow Cooker Apple Dumplings is similar and it makes the house smell delicious too.

Ingredients

If you enjoy apple desserts in the Fall, you may be like me and keep canned apple pie filling on hand. Cake mix is also a pantry staple and great for making dump cakes with canned fruit pie fillings.

Directions

Step one

Begin by preheating the oven to 350°. Set your iron skillet into the oven with one whole stick of butter to melt as the oven heats.

Note

You can use a baking dish instead of an iron skillet. Be sure to spray it with nonstick spray first.

Step two

Remove the hot skillet with the melted butter from the oven. Pour both cans of apple pie filling into the melted butter. Gently stir to blend the butter with that delectable apple pie filling.

Step three

Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the apple mixture and pat down gently. Do not stir.

Step four

Melt the remaining 1/2 stick of butter in the microwave and pour it on top of the cake mix. There will be some dry spots in the cake mix. If you want more melted butter, go for it. I won’t tell.

Bake

Bake, uncovered for about 40 to 50 minutes until the cake mix is golden brown on top and the apple filling is bubbly hot. Carefully remove from oven.

Serve hot with a big scoop of ice cream on top for a real treat. We love this fall dessert with vanilla bean ice cream on top.

Optional Ingredients

Use Butter Pecan cake mix, Spice Cake mix, or even a box of yellow cake mix instead of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cake mix if you like.

Add pecans or walnuts on top before baking for a nutty crunch.

Drizzle caramel topping over the apple dump cake and ice cream for caramel apple lovers.

How to store leftover Apple Dump Cake

Cover with foil and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat a portion of this delicious dessert in a bowl in the microwave. The leftover dump cake will begin to dry out. For best results serve it fresh and hot from the oven.

  • 1 box Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cake Mix
