Baking Apple Suggestions

Not every apple is created equal when it comes to baking. You want an apple that holds up well without becoming mushy. It also needs to maintain is delectable apple flavor. We recommend using; Granny Smith, Pink Lady or Honey Crisp apples.

My personal favorite is Honey Crisp. We can always find really large one’s at The Fresh Market.

Baking the Apple Crisp

Grease a square baking dish. You can line your pan with baking parchment paper if desired. I love using parchment paper because of the easy clean up. An 8 x 8 pan is perfect. Preheat the oven to 350°.

Now pour your apple crisp mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly across the pan.

Time to add the topping. Spread the oat topping evenly across the apple mixture.

Place into pre-heated oven and bake for about 30 minutes.

If the top layer is nicely browned, cover dish loosely with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning. Continue baking for another 15-20 minutes or until you see the apple crisp is bubbling.

Remove from oven. Cool completely. I like to set the pan on a cooling rack which allows air to circulate underneath so it cools quicker. Don’t you want a little taste while it is still warm! I can’t resist.
