Texas Toast Sloppy Joes Recipe
This Texas Toast Sloppy Joe recipe is a quick and easy meal for dinner or lunch. Loaded with lots of flavor and served as an open face sandwich on garlic bread Texas toast with cheese melted on top.

Equipment
- Large skillet
- Slotted spoon
- Colander to drain grease from meat
- Sheet pan

Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef, browned and drained
- 1/2 of medium sweet onion, diced
- 1/2 of a green bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 of a red bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup of ketchup
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1 ½ Tbsp. tomato paste
- ½ Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- ¾ cup water
- 8 slices frozen garlic Texas toast
- 4 slices Colby jack cheese or your preferred flavor of sliced cheese
Directions
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350°.
Step 2
Add the ground beef, onion, and bell peppers to a large skillet over medium high heat. Cook until the meat is browned and drain the grease.

Step 3
Add the beef mixture back into the pan and stir in the garlic, ketchup, chili powder, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and water. Stir to combine.

Step 4
Bring to a low boil and simmer over medium to medium high heat until the sloppy joe mix thickens.
Step 5
While the sloppy joe mixture simmers, prepare the baking pan with the Texas toast. Spray the pan with non-stick spray. Lay out the Texas Toast in a single layer, side by side on the pan.
Step 6
Bake the bread for about 3-4 minutes, just until the bread thaws and begins to soften. Then remove the bread from the oven.
Step 7
Use the back of a spoon to make a large indention in the center of each piece of Texas Toast.

Step 8
Now spoon a big dollop of the hot Sloppy joe mixture onto each slice of Texas Toast. Cut each piece of cheese in half diagonally. Then top each open faced sandwich with a slice of Colby jack cheese.
Note
Substitute your favorite cheese for Colby jack if you like. Melted mozzarella is good on these Sloppy joes also.

Step 9
Place the pan back into the oven until the cheese melts, about 3-4 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

- 1/2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp/ brown sugar either light or dark will work
- 3/4 cup water
- 8 slices frozen Garlic Texas Toast
- 4 slices Colby jack cheese cut in half
