Not Quite Mississippi Crockpot Roast Recipe
Have you heard all the buzz about the Mississippi Crockpot Roast? If you have ever spent more than a few minutes on Pinterest, you must have seen it.
I saw the Mississippi Crockpot Roast on Pinterest a while back but I forgot all about it. Then I happened to see Paula Deen make it on Facebook Live and I knew it’s high time I made that recipe!
My hubby and I saw a story about this roast on the morning news and I thought, that’s it! I am cooking that roast!

The Story Behind The Mississippi Crockpot Roast
No matter where you see it, the recipe is exactly the same with those Pepperoncini peppers! I decided to do an internet search and try to find the original recipe. I just needed to know!
Here’s what I found. A sweet southern belle from Mississippi, Robin Chapman, altered her aunt’s recipe to be slightly milder using the pepperoncini peppers. She then allowed her friend to submit it to their church cookbook. Y’all k-n-o-w those church cookbooks have the best recipes!
Somewhere along the line this blogger found the recipe in that cookbook, shared it on her blog and the rest is history.
Ok, don’t gasp but I don’t want the Pepperoncini peppers! I’m using Pearl Onions instead.
Ingredients
Only about 4 simple ingredients to this lip-smacking, delicious entrée slow cooked until it is falling about and loaded with delicious flavor. The original recipe uses a jar of pepperoncini but I don’t like those so I’m using Red Pearl Onions. I will turn my head if you want those pepperoncini’s.
- Chuck Roast (I used a 3 lb. roast for 6 people)
- One package of Ranch dressing mix, like this
- Small Bag of Red Pearl Onions (optional)
- One package of Au Jus Gravy mix, like this
Directions
- Rinse your roast under cool running water, pat dry and place into the Crockpot. I use these disposable Crockpot liners for easy cleanup.
- Peal the skins from the little pearl onions and set aside.
- Sprinkle each packet of seasoning onto the top of the roast. No need to mix them together first, just sprinkle one on top of the other and it doesn’t matter which goes first.
- Place the onions around the edges of the roast and cover the Crockpot with the lid.
- Turn Crockpot on Low and cook for about 8 hours. Cook time depends on the size of roast and how fast your Crockpot cooks. Use a meat thermometer to test for doneness.
