Mixed Plaids Christmas Tablescape
My Mixed Plaids Christmas Tablescape gives me all the Christmas feels without being complicated. Plaid table decorations and Christmas seem to go together like peas and carrots, don’t they.
Personally I love all the Christmas plaid but there is a such thing as too much of a good thing, right? That is why I used a plain red tablecloth as the base on this Christmas tablescape.

My favorite thing about his table is the centerpiece with the live greens and the lit candles. It was free too!
I made the Red and Black Plaid Cone Tree several years ago. You can make one too, it’s super easy. See the quick tutorial here which includes where I found that pretty fabric.
The center piece is a collection of pillar candles both battery operated and candle wick. They are centered on an over sized platter which was also used in our Halloween Skeleton Tablescape when it was buried beneath bones and skeletons.
The greenery is from the tall pencil shrubs in our front yard and the little baby pine cones have been in my decor stash for a long time. I transitioned them from this Fall styled Three Tier Tray into my Christmas Table Centerpiece.
TIP WHEN USING LIVE GREENERY
You might want to cut your greenery and leave it outside for just a bit before bringing it in to allow time for the creepy crawly creatures to vacate the branches. Shake them really well to urge the creatures along. Don’t ask me how I know this but there was no squealing involved.
The plate stack begins with a simple black round place mat. The black and white plaid charger is a Hobby Lobby find. Their charger section always calls my name when enter I the store. I need to stop listening!
The buffalo plaid dinner plates are from Dollar Tree. You never know what you might find at Dollar Tree! The salad plates on top are from Walmart this year. They caught my eye and I love that the close knit stripes match both the charger and the napkins which are from Pier One.
My napkin rings are vintage metal Holly leaves anchored with red berry bells. These were an estate sale find. It is nice to give a nod to vintage Christmas decorations. It’s hard to believe we didn’t keep all of those fabulous things from days gone by.
You can’t really beat a free to create centerpiece, can you. There are occasions when we want to pull out all the stops and maybe buy some fresh flowers and Christmas is certainly one of those but I opted for the free greens and candles this time.

Hubby and I recently took a trip to the North Ga. mountains. While we were there the temperatures plunged lower than we expected. I picked up this pretty black and white plaid blanket scarf.
It is perfect for the center of my table to tone down all that red just a little bit. See this Simple Pointsettia Christmas table I set up in the kitchen several years ago and used a scarf to create contrast on it as well.
The candy canes on the little tree on the Sideboard are a reminder of the Candy Tree my Papa used to make for us kids every year at Christmas. I wish I knew exactly what kind of tree he got that branch from. He would use a branch with lots of little thorny limbs and fill it full of gum drops and mini marshmallows. Yes the candies were stuck onto the ‘sticks’ and we ate them and looked forward to it every year.
The little train was in my parents Christmas decor. I like to use items from their decor every year to help me feel all those wonderful years of family memories.

I love your mixed plaids but you can keep the peas and carrots. LOL. Even when we have a store bought chicken pot pie, whats left in the bottom of the tin is a pile of peas. Love your idea with all the candles and greenery too. Very nice.

I loved your story about the gum drop candy tree. My mother always had one and in that day they had multi colored candy. Then I remember having only green and red. I saved her tree for many years and used it. Then regret fully I threw it out because it had chips in it. I am so sorry I did that because it was made prettier than any new ones I see now. It’s funny how childhood memories catch your attention.
Your plaid mix is pretty and charming. Your vintage napkin rings are delightful and add the perfect touch.

I love those holly jingle bell napkin rings, I was ready to run and and buy some – but it looks like you found a little treasure there! Oh my, Shirley, I LOVE this table! That combination on your plate stack is really super nice! Ugh, I may have to go to DT and WM. Thank goodness the closest HL is about an hour away (but we have a new one opening the first week of Jan 8 mi away, think they’ll have Christmas clearance, lol?). I do agree…there is something simply warm and cozy and very welcoming about a mix of plaids. I love how you mixed it up with your handmade plaid christmas trees and incorporated vintage items like your sideboard’s little tree truck and wagon.
