Our Traditional Christmas Tree
Our Traditional Christmas tree is decorated in Red and Gold Ribbons, Bows, and Balls. It’s the colors which are traditional. This year I stepped outside of my tree decorating comfort zone for a little more bold look.

Step into a corner of our bonus room where we have created a cozy little Christmas setting. Last year this tree was decorated in blue and white which you can see here and it was located in front of a window. This year I went with Red and Gold decor, lots of ribbon and put the tree in a corner so we could sit the faux fireplace heater nearby.
Isn’t it hilarious how predictable cats are. They make themselves cliche. He was under the tree until I turned on the heater then he became smitten by the faux fireplace flames.
The faux Christmas tree we use in our upstairs bonus room was our only tree for a few years before we moved into the new home. I enjoy using it upstairs to add some Christmas spirit to the bonus room because when we have all the family over that room is usually a busy place.
A red wicker sleigh is packed with candy canes for the children. My Mom always hung candy canes on the Christmas Tree for the grandchildren. I enjoy keeping the tradition.
Because this particular tree is a few years old and it’s fake, it requires a little more effort to hide the actual tree. This year I decided to use ribbons and bows to cover the tree. My decision was heavily influenced by my new Bowdabra! I was having so much fun making bows! It reminded me of the Bedazzler craze of the 80’s.
I’m really in the spirit of using traditional colors this year so both of our trees have a lot of red. Ribbon comes in handy just trying to stretch the decor and it’s so fun to use!
I used a few large pieces of Christmas decor items tucked into the tree here and there like this stuffed Santa. The rule of thumb is to add large pieces of decor to the bottom of the tree and smaller pieces towards the top.
Look close and you can see a green rocking horse with an orange mane. That piece has been in our Christmas decor for many many years but has never been a part of the tree.
I honestly loved adding these treasured pieces of our Christmas decor to this tree. Although you can’t tell in this picture, the Santa head has stains on his hat from the Flood of ’94 in middle Georgia. We lost a lot of our possessions that year but kept all we could salvage.

The red and black twirl ribbon is from last years main tree seen here. Those bows were fun to make. I made a big circular loop using the wide plaid ribbon on the bottom and a narrow gold ribbon on top. The bottom of the loop is just a long tail. Those were the first bows to go on the tree.
The Bowdabra is so easy to use and there are so many different ways to make bows! I also used it to make the topper bow which incorporates four different ribbons.
Stop by on Dec. 10th when I will be sharing our big tree in the living room for Day 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas Ideas.
