How To Get The Gas Grill Ready For The Season
It is time to get the gas grill ready for the season! We could not be happier for grilling season to be here! All we need to do is give the old gas grill some tender loving care and start cooking outside again!
Our gas grill has been around quite a few years now, about 10 years actually. It looks great for it’s age because we take good care of it. This grill was always kept covered with a grill cover to protect it from the environments. We also go through this process I am sharing to get the gas grill ready for the season every year.
It looks better on the outside than the inside. The grates need replacing this year, well maybe last year would have been better but we were preoccupied with selling our home and moving into our new home last year. This year the grill gets our full attention though!

The first thing to do is give the gas grill a good cleaning inside and out. Begin the cleaning process by removing everything from the inside top. Then use a small whisk broom for loosening debris.
After all debris has been loosened, use a vacuum cleaner to remove all the debris. We used our Oreck Hand Held vacuum cleaner which is one of the most handy cleaning tools in our home.
Once the cleaning is complete, it is time to replace all of the pieces.
After installing the new grates, it is necessary to burn them off just a bit. You can see the smoke rising and once that stops they are ready for use.
The grill grates were never on sale. My hubby had his eye on them for months hoping there would be some sort of discount.
Finally we came up with a plan to save a few bucks. We used ebates! Lowe’s had our parts and Lowe’s is an ebates store! We logged into ebates, selected Lowe’s and ordered them online with in store pick up! Furthermore we used a card with a cash back bonus. At least we were able to create some sort of savings for ourselves!

Don’t forget to clean the inside where you store the propane tanks and supplies. We keep the wood chips for the smoker in the bottom of the gas grill too.
One last thing to do is to replace the battery for the igniter.
Doesn’t she look nice with those new grates ready for grilling! We can get a few more years from this old gas grill with proper care. I cleaned the outside with a multi-purpose spray cleaner and a soft cloth. Never use an abrasive cleaner on stainless steel.
To keep your stainless steel grill looking new, keep it covered especially if it is stored outside in the elements. Our new home has a back porch with a roof so we no longer need the grill cover.
