DIY Ruffled Bandana Halter Top

Ruffled Bandana Halter Top.intelligentdomestications.comIf I can make this simple DIY Ruffled Bandana Halter Top, I am certain you can too! ย I am very excited to beย learning a new skill! As a 50 something SAHW (Stay At Home Wife), I’m embarking upon learning to sew! ย This is one of my first projects!

Iย created a Sewing board on Pinterest which you can follow here. I have had a lot of fun finding sewing projects to possibly tackle. I came across thisย  Pin of a Bandana Halter top for a little girl.

I have 6 grandsons and 1 granddaughter! She just happens to be the baby so she is pretty special in our family.ย Her name is Ashleyย Maria but we call her Lolli and I call her Lolli Pop or Popcicle. ย When I saw that cute little Bandana Halter Top, I knew I had to make it for her.

This was a good rookie project.

It helped me gain familiarity with my new sewing machineย and create something in the process.

I first made it following their directions so that the bandana was folded in half.

My first rookie mistake, the child in the picture is smaller than Lolli.

She thought it was really cute but her tummy was showing and she didn’t like that. Lolli is 5 years old. She LOVES pretty clothes and shoes.ย What girl doesn’t, right? She has formed a distinct opinion of what she likes and doesn’t like too. I made one minor adjustment which was simple. If I can do it, anyone can do it!

Here is the Ruffled Bandana Halter Top step by step project

Simple fix

Ruffled Bandana Child's Halter Top.Step 1.intelligentdomestications.comI cut the bandana as shown in the above picture. Cut it in half. The top half will be the halter top. The piece in the middle will be the ruffle which you will sew onto the halter top toย extend the length in the front. That bottom triangle is going into your scrap collection. The size of the ruffle piece will depend on how much length you want to add to the top in the front.

Line up the two pieces of fabric and pin them together for sewing.

Sew the two pieces together. All done!

Bandana Ruffled Halter Top.intelligentdomestications.comMy grandchildren live about 30 or 40 minutes away from us. The day I took Lolli’s Ruffled Bandana Halter Top to her, it was raining so we had to take pictures indoors. She fell in love with it right away. She ran to the closet and got out her ruffled toile skirt and wore that outfit the entire day!

Funny story

Even though the sales person demonstrated to me how to threadย my new sewing machineย in the store, it took me 3 days to do it myself at home. Yep, I did say that. I watched videos and read the book, just was missing something simple. I can thread it like a pro now though!

  5. Too bad I don’t have a granddaughter, because that bandana halter top is adorable! I need you to come teach me to sew – looks like you’re a fast learner. I made a promise to myself that I would learn to sew and I received a really nice Singer sewing machine for Christmas. It looks like it’s digital, but when I finally sit down and watch the video and learn how to thread a bobbin, I might just make this top and save it for whenever . . .

    1. Alli, I’m really having fun learning to sew. I made a bib apron too! It turned out good! I have a pattern and cloth laying on the table in front of my sewing machine right now! New hobby! You can do it too, I’m certain of it! I’m working on trying to come up with something simple to make for all of those grandsons!

We enjoying hearing from you!
