Griffin’s Foot Long Hot Dogs Chattanooga
You will find Griffin’s Foot Long Hot Dogs at the corner of Central and Main in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They have been serving Chattanooga at this location since 1939! Any eatery with such a long history is definitely doing something right!
My husband and I enjoying hot dogs so much we started our own little Hot Dog Tour a few years ago. When we travel we look for the best local hot dog joint. On our recent visit to Chattanooga we found Griffin’s Foot Long Hot Dogs.
We always do a bit of asking around in search of hearing the same answer multiple times. We have been sent to some touristy places through the years and to be honest they just don’t cut the mustard when it comes to making a really good hot dog! Why? Because they have a varied menu and don’t just serve hot dogs. We are in search of the best local hot dog joint, focusing their attention on serving their customers a good hot dog!

Griffin’s was recommended to us on a recent long weekend visit to Chattanooga. We actually drove passed it several times on our shopping journeys and saw all types of people going in and out. Young and old, men and women which is always a good sign for a local hot dog joint. It means everyone loves them, not just construction workers with an iron stomach.
Griffin’s Foot Long Hot Dogs serves only footlongs but don’t worry. They cut them in half prior to serving. The decor is typical for most hot dog joints, red and yellow to pay homage to ketchup and mustard. The menu includes foot long hot dogs and chips only.
Notice that beautiful ceiling in the photo above. Their building seems older than they are and it provides great ambiance while it speaks to the testament of both the longevity of Miss Griffin’s and her building.
Menu selections are varied and include Backyard Dog, Veggie Dog, Coney Dog and The Great Dane to name a few. We opted for the Build Your Own option.
I’m a simple girl and went with a basic slaw dog, no mustard. My hubby had a Chili Cheese Dog. Since they are all cut in half I gave my hubby half of mine and against his wishes, he gave me half of his. That man loves his chili cheese dogs!
Griffin’s Foot Long Hot Dogs serves those yummy red wieners we often see on our hot dog tour. Theirs are a little more fat but not too much so. They prepare your food where you can watch so I had the pleasure of watching one of the guys prep the wieners. He rinsed them multiple times is steaming hot water prior to placing them in the steamer machine you see in an earlier photo above. Notice in that photo that once the dogs are done, they turn bright red.
The buns are steamed right next to the dogs. Steamed buns are always good.
Although there is limited seating, we dined in. At one point the line was almost beyond the door. We were there on a Saturday when they close early and apparently the locals know because they were pouring in. The place was busy the entire time we were there.
We enjoyed the food and the experience and would definitely go back to Griffin’s Foot Long Hot Dogs again the next time we visit Chattanooga.
