Southern Brewed Ginger Peach Sweet Iced Tea Recipe

Iced tea and summertime were meant for each other. Peach Sweet Tea is a summer treat when fresh peaches are in season.

Our hot humid climate produces a constant need for an iced beverage. Growing up in a home with mostly boys meant my Mom brewed tea on the stove almost every day. Peach Iced Tea was a real treat.

Here in the south, we love our home brewed sweet iced tea year round but we make even more in the summer. This recipe for Peach Iced Tea reminds me of my great aunt who always made this for my older brother who loved it the most.

I live in Georgia and we are a leading producer of Peaches which means of course we have been known to make Peach Iced Tea using fresh peaches.

As a matter of fact I shared 10 Reasons To Visit Lane Southern Orchards which is not far from my home and a favorite place for all things peachy including peach ice cream. If you happen to be traveling down I-75 through middle Georgia, by all means, stop in Lanes. You can sample their Peach Iced Tea and their Peach Ice cream.

You can order fresh Georgia peaches on Amazon, in season, if you are having trouble finding good fresh peaches.

Peach iced tea is a nice summer treat. Use fresh peaches which are in season in the summer months. You should be able to find them in your grocery store.

Ice will melt in hot tea and make it weaker

Should you add ice to the pitcher when you make the tea? No, and here’s why. The ice will melt and make the tea weak.

However, if you are planning to set a pretty table including your cute Tea Pitcher filled with fresh made Peach Iced Tea with peach slices hugged by ice cubes floating in it, go ahead. I recommend making the tea just a tad stronger so when the ice melts, the flavors will be just right.

Southern Tea Tip

Make a couple trays of ice using tea instead of water. Add those to the pitcher when hosting guests. No watered down tea.

Ginger Peach Sweet Iced Tea recipe brewed fresh and served pretty. A southern favorite in the summertime

Ingredients

  • 8 Cups water
  • 6 organic black tea bags, paper tags removed
  • 4 fresh peaches, pitted and cut into chunks
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh ginger, finely minced (optional)
  • 1 Cup of granulated sugar or Local honey, to taste
  • OPTIONAL:
  • 1 fresh peach, cut into thin slices
  • 6-8 fresh mint sprigs

Instructions

STOVE TOP INSTRUCTIONS

In a large saucepan, add 8 cups of water and bring to a boil
Immediately remove the saucepan from the heat and add the tea bags, peaches and ginger.
Cover with lid and allow the tea to steep for 5 to 20 minutes depending on how strong you prefer your tea.
Remove the tea bags and peaches.
Pour the hot tea concentrate into a large pitcher through a fine strainer to remove any Ginger pieces
Add the sugar or honey, whichever you prefer and stir until dissolved. Taste to see if it has reached your desired sweetness. If not, add more sugar or honey as desired
Chill for about 2 hours in the refrigerator
Serve tea in glasses filled about half way with ice, one or two peach slices and garnish with fresh mint sprigs

INSTANT POT INSTRUCTIONS
Add water, tea bags, peaches, and fresh ginger to Instant Pot and stir to combine.

Add lid and lock into place. Switch the vent to “Sealing” and set the “Manual” setting on normal for 5 minutes.

When finished, allow pressure to release naturally (NR) for 10-15 minutes, then do a quick release (QR) to allow the remaining pressure to escape.

Carefully strain hot tea mixture with a fine mesh strainer to remove the solids. Pour the remaining liquid into a large, heat-resistant pitcher.

Sweeten with honey, to taste, and stir to combine. Cool slightly before serving over ice with peach slices and sprigs of fresh mint, if desired. Enjoy!
