Ingredients for Magic Cookie Bars
Magic Cookie Bars are generally a seven-layer bar cookie dessert. Coconut is optional because some folks don’t care for it.
- ยฝ Cup Unsalted Butter
- 1ยฝ Cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
- 1 Can (14 oz.) Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 Pkg. 12 oz. White Chocolate Morsels
- 1 Pkg. 12 oz. Peanut Butter Morsels
- 1 Cup Chopped Pecans
- 1 Cup Easter candy-coated chocolate (M&M’s)
- 1 cup coconut flakes, optional
M&M’s
It’s the pretty colors of the M&M’s in these cookie bars that create excitement and make them match the holiday. Use candies in any color to match your occasion. Save yourself the hassle of driving all over town looking for M&M’s in the colors you need and don’t pay those party store prices. You can get them on Amazon right here in any color.
You can substitute Cadbury Mini eggs if you like. They are just as pretty in pastel colors and perfect for an Easter dessert.
Flavored Morsel Chips
My recipe for Easter Magic Bars uses peanut butter chips and white chocolate chips. You can substitute milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, butterscotch chips or semi-sweet chocolate chips if you like.
Nuts
This recipe uses chopped pecans. You can substitute walnuts if you like.
Coconut
The coconut flakes are optional. They don’t make or break the flavor of these seven-layer bars. Some folks do not care for coconut which is why it is optional. Coconut is a common addition to some Easter dessert recipes.
Directions
Use an 11×6 baking dish for a thinner bar cookie or a 10×6 for a thicker bar cookie.
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350ยฐ (325ยฐ for glass baking dish). Prepare your baking dish by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.
Step 2 Make the Crust
Place the butter in the baking dish and melt in the preheated oven. Keep an eye on it, this doesn’t take long.
Carefully remove the baking dish with melted butter from the oven and sit it in your workspace. Pour the Graham Cracker Crumbs evenly over the melted butter. Using the back of a spatula, press the crumbs down well into the butter and let it all soak up together.
Step 3 Add the Layers
Now pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the crust and then sprinkle the Peanut Butter Chips evenly across the top of the condensed milk.
You can use the back of a spoon or your spatula to help spread the sweetened condensed milk across the crust.
Fun fact, these bar cookies were originally called Hello Dollies back in the 1950’s.
Step 4 Add chocolate chips and pecans
Now add the white chocolate chips evenly on top of the peanut butter chips. This delectable bar cookie is coming together nicely.
Sprinkle the chopped pecans on top now.
My Hint for chopping pecans is that I break them all up by hand one by one. It doesn’t take as long as it seems. The reason I do this is to avoid those tiny little pieces that can get stuck in your teeth.
Step 5 Add M&M’s
The last layer on your 7-Layer Easter Magic Cookie Bars is those pretty pastel M&M’s. After covering the surface evenly with the M&M candies, press down gently using the back of a spatula.
Bake for approximately 25 to 30 minutes. The peanut butter chips and white chocolate chips should be melted when these bar cookies are done.
Allow to cool completely before cutting into small squares to serve. It is painful to wait for these delights to cool but necessary.

These are the Ultimate Cookie Bars for Easter because we blended melted peanut butter chips with white chocolate chips for that peanut butter and chocolate flavor we all love. Oh yes, you can trade the white chocolate chips for milk chocolate if you insist. I am a big fan of white chocolate and think they make this Easter dessert look more ‘Eastery’.
