Craft Room Purge Sort and Organize Tips

It is Week 3 of the Craft Room Makeover Challenge and we are sharing our Purge Sort and Organize tips.

From January 3rd through January 31st, 12 Plus crafty bloggers will be sorting, organizing, cleaning, and decorating their craft spaces. Week Two things are beginning to look better and I shared some of the items I plan to use for organization.

Do you see my Two Tier Spinning Tray buried among the mess in this corner? Notice the coffee mug tree also. I use it to hang scissors on but as you can see, it is empty in this picture. There are multiple pairs of scissors somewhere in my craft room at this point. In my defense, this picture was taken a few days after Christmas. Enough said, right!

Find my easy tutorial to make your own Two Tier Spinning Tray here. It’s one of my favorite pieces on my craft work table. Mayonnaise jars are the perfect upcycle for craft room storage. About five or six of them fit perfectly on the bottom of my spinning tray. 

How To Purge and Sort

You will need three piles while sorting for the purge. 

• Keep
• Donate
• Throw Away

While cleaning the craft room, it is obvious what you need to keep. You will certainly keep tools and supplies you have plans for in the near future. If you are finding items you purchased years ago and have never used, place those in the donate pile. Package like items together in ziploc bags to donate. One of my favorite spots in the thrift store is the craft table where all the goodies are neatly bagged.

Make a genuine effort not to buy pretty things in the craft store just because they are on sale. I know, that’s tough but it’s important.

Throw away is a tough one for most hard core crafters but you can and should do it! You know deep down what is destined for the trash. If it makes you feel better, put all paper or plastic in your recycle bins by the curb! 

Pick up or download Organizing From The Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern. I read this book and found some very helpful tips for the purge process in particular.
My 10 Drawer Craft Organizer Cart is one of the most useful storage items particularly for sewing supplies. There are so many different types of sewing baubles, ribbons, buttons, felt and more. I like to keep them in separate drawers on my cart. It is nice to be able to have access to the cart again!

Everything has been put away in it's proper place from this end of my work table also. I needed a solution for receipts. As a blogger, receipts are needed for tax purposes and must be kept up with. Prior to filing, I tend to pile them up in my craft room where the shopping bags are unloaded. I found this pretty  storage box with magnetic closure and fell in love with the message, Adventure Awaits! You'll have to wait until the reveal to see where it finds it's final resting place in my craft room. I'm already happy with it's purpose.

Next week I will be sharing some noticeable accomplishments and I'm pretty excited to share! We are more than half way through our craft room makeover and I am chomping at the bits for it to be completed so I can go play in my craft room!
