How To Set Up A Cheese Board
First pick your platter, board or tray
Even an oversized serving platter like your Thanksgiving turkey platter will work or a wooden cutting board. The more creative, the more fun! If you have a board or platter but don’t want the design on it to show, cover it with brown paper which will only add character.
Use small bowls
Use small bowls, like these Ramekins for some of your ingredients like dips for crackers, jams, olives, pickles, small candies and berries. Place those bowls onto your tray first before adding anything else. You can always move them around while styling your board but you want to be able to know there is enough space for all of your small bowls. You can always refill the meats, cheese and crackers and for that matter the bowls too.
Styling the food
Alternate the colors of your food choices. One row of red meats or fruits followed by white cheese and next blue fruits or candies. Continue your color pattern while filling your food board around the small bowls you are using.
You could also create a one red section, one white section and one blue section around your ramekin bowls. Yet another perfect way to set up your patriotic platter would be to create an American flag cheese tray using the food to create the flag.
Be sure to fan out the cheese slices making them easier to pick up. A fun way to display your white cheddar is to use a star cookie cutter to make little stars with the cheese which adds character to your tray. Slice the cheese thin first and then use the cookie cutter.
Serving Utensils
Provide all of the right serving utensils for fetching the goodies from your large appetizer spread. You will want small spoons for dips, small tongs, cheese knife and even some party toothpicks as long as the colors match your patriotic cheeseboard.
