How To Make Homemade Strawberry Cake
Your kitchen will smell delicious while you are making this cake. Even frozen strawberries smell inviting. The flavor is the real test and this is an amazing strawberry cake!
Ingredients
An easy recipe for a strawberry cake using cake mix and jello with frozen strawberries that delivers the best ever strawberry cake for any occasion.
Fresh or Frozen Strawberries
Through the years, we have used real strawberries and frozen strawberries in the mix and frosting. Over time, we have come to believe using frozen strawberries give us more control over the outcome of the cake.
- 1 box of white cake mix
- 1 (3 oz.) box strawberry gelatin
- 4 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup finely chopped frozen (thawed) strawberries
- 1 cup oil
- 1/2 cup whole milk
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°.
Grease and flour your cake pans. I prefer the grease and flour method to non-stick sprays because it is much more foolproof. If you prefer, you can line your pans with parchment paper. Grease and flour is the easiest method.
I use either two 9″ round or three 8″ round cake pans.
Step 2
In a large bowl, add all of the dry ingredients. Then blend using the mixer on low speed. This can be done with a whisk if you prefer.
Be sure to remove any lumps in the cake batter.
Step 3
Add wet ingredients to the dry and mix on medium speed until well blended, about 2 minutes. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl during mixing to get all of that yummy batter blended well.
You do not need pink food coloring to give this cake its rich color. The strawberries do that naturally as well as adding real strawberry flavor.
Step 4
Pour cake batter into prepared pans and place onto the middle rack in the oven. Be sure none of the cake pans are touching each other or the sides of the oven.
Bake according to directions on the cake mix box. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 5
Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
Notice in the picture of the slice just how moist this cake is! This is one of the best cake recipes you will find. Just exactly the right amount of flavor and moistness with the most scrumptious Strawberry Buttercream Frosting!

Homemade Strawberry Cake
A homemade Strawberry Cake recipe almost from scratch. There are strawberries in the mix and even more strawberries in the homemade strawberry buttercream frosting.
Ingredients
- 1 Box of white cake mixÂ
- 1 (3 oz.) box strawberry gelatin
- 4 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup finely chopped frozen (thawed) strawberries*Â
- 1 cup oil
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°
- Blend dry ingredients together with mixer at medium speed.
- Add wet ingredients and mix until well blended, about 2 minutes.
- Pour into prepared cake pans.** (Use either 2 9" round or 3 8" round pans)
- Bake according to package directions for the white cake mix. Toothpick inserted in center will come out clean when cake is done.
- Cool and frost with Strawberry Butter Cream Frosting
Notes
*If using fresh strawberries, cook them down with sugar and allow them to cool prior to using in this cake recipe.
**I prefer to grease and flour cake pans to be sure the cake won't stick. All non-stick sprays are not great for baking and it isn't worth taking a chance on having a cake stick to the pan.
