Ingredients for Oreo Truffles
- 1 (16 ounces) package Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
- 1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese, at room temperature
- 16 ounces melting chocolate, candy melts, or almond bark
- Candy Sprinkles for decorating
How To Make Oreo Truffles
Before you begin, earlier in the day be sure to remove the cream cheese from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature.
Step 1
Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. You could also use wax paper or a baking mat.
Step 2
Place the oreo cookies into a food processor and pulse until the cookies become fine crumbs. You can place the cookies into a large ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin if you don’t have a food processor.
Step 3
Cut the cream cheese into chunks and add the cream cheese to the food processor with the oreo crumbs. Pulse to mix cream cheese well with the oreo cookie crumbs. The mixture will form a large ball.
If you are not using a food processor, mix the cookie crumbs with the cream cheese in a large bowl using a wooden spoon until completely mixed.
Step 4
Transfer truffle mixture into a large bowl. Using a small ice cream scoop, portion the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll the small balls between your hands to form a smooth ball.
Using the ice cream scoop will help you make all of the cookie balls the same size. This recipe should yield about 50 Oreo Truffles.
How To Dip Oreo Cookie Balls in Melted Chocolate
For best results, freeze the oreo balls for 15 to 20 minutes prior to dipping in the melted chocolate. They will harden and be much easier to handle with a fork and spoon for dipping in chocolate.
Step 5
Melt your chocolate for dipping. I used red, and pink Wilton candy melts as well as white chocolate chips and chocolate bark for these Valentine’s Oreo Cookie Truffles.

Step 6
Dip each cookie ball into the melted chocolate and tap on the side of the bowl to remove the excess chocolate. Place the truffles on the prepared baking sheet and immediately decorate with sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.
Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until the chocolate coating is firm. They are ready to serve.
How To Freeze Oreo truffles
- Prepare the cookie balls as directed and place them on the baking sheet.
- Put the baking sheet into the freezer until the cookie balls are frozen.
- Transfer the cookie balls to an airtight container. Use wax paper between layers so they won’t stick together.
- Seal and freeze for up to 3 months.
- Thaw at room temperature when ready to serve.
How To Store Oreo Truffles
Because Oreo truffles are made with cream cheese, they do require refrigeration. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to about 3 weeks. But, trust me, they won’t last that long. They will all be eaten before then.
Decorating Tips for Oreo Truffles
Wilton candy melts are great for this recipe and they come in many colors. Using candy melts, you can make a candy coating to match any special occasion, baby showers, bridal showers, or holiday.
If using candy melts, add about 1/4 tsp. vegetable shortening or a drop or two of coconut oil to the candy as it melts. This makes the candy spread move evenly and creates a smoother shell around the truffle.
