Follow our simple wreath tutorial for making this gorgeous Yellow and Purple Floral Summer Wreath for your front door. Grab the glue gun and let’s start making!
Can we all agree that hanging a pretty wreath on our front door makes us smile especially if you made it yourself.
You can do it! I promise if you can use a glue gun and a set of wire cutters, you can make a pretty floral wreath for your front door!
Here’s what I used to make this Yellow and Purple Floral Summer Wreath
- 18-22 inch Burlap Wreath Form
- Yellow 5 1/8″ Deco Mesh
- 10 Yellow Floral Stems (Dollar Tree)
- 10 Purple Floral Stems (Dollar Tree)
- 1 Faux Bird
- 2 Silk Butterflies
- 1 Metal Watering can, 4″ diameter 5 1/4″ tall (Hobby Lobby)
- Yellow Wired Ribbon (Joanne’s)
- Silk Wired Butterfly Ribbon (Joanne’s)
Begin by using your handy dandy wire cutters to separate the floral stems individually.
Next, make your little Deco Mesh bows to insert between the burlap ruffles. The yellow deco mesh adds a pretty pop of bright summer color to this burlap wreath form.
How To Make The Decor Mesh Bows
Roll out and cut 8″ strips of the deco mesh.
Scrunch it together and secure the center with floral wire. I found for the size of my wreath, a 9″ strip of floral wire was perfect for tying the deco mesh and securing it to the wreath.
Secure the deco mesh bow in between the ruffled layers of burlap and tie it on the back side.
Now that you have made all of the deco mesh bows and attached them to the wreath it is time to begin adding the flowers.
Keep your wire cutters handy as you will be snipping the ends to the right size constantly as you work your way around the wreath. I tucked each stem inside the fold of the burlap, dabbed hot glue onto it and held it for a few seconds.
Tuck, glue, repeat. Continue the process of adding the floral stems all the way around alternating colors as you go. Leave a space for the cute little watering can!

I searched far and wide for the perfect watering can for this wreath and finally found it at Hobby Lobby. Why didn’t I start there, it’s always the last stop!
Finding yellow ribbon proved to be another challenge. Again, I searched far and wide including Hobby Lobby but couldn’t find what I deemed to be the perfect yellow ribbon. I settled on the sheer yellow but decided to add the contrasting darker color with butterflies which screams summer.
You could probably get away with not adding a bow to this particular wreath because the flowers all the way around are so gorgeous and summer feeling.
The last thing to add is the butterflies and bird all of which are Dollar Tree finds. A little dab of hot glue and you are done. Time to hang your new wreath on your front door. Make yourself a glass of iced tea and sit on the porch to admire your handiwork!
This newly crafted Purple and Yellow Floral Summer Wreath has been delivered to my good friend, Phyllis. She brought her Easter wreath to me for a makeover. I stripped it down to the burlap and had a blast making this one in the colors she requested. Yellow and Purple are perfect for summer front door.
