Marinade is a great way to enhance the flavor of meat while tenderizing at the same time.. Our 5 Ingredient Steak Marinade recipe will bring out the flavor in your steaks this grilling season!
It is no secret how much we Americans love our steak! We have entire restaurant chains devoted to bringing us a big thick juicy steak just the way we like it! They use all sorts of seasoning and marinade tricks to bring you their best flavor! You can make your home cooked steak taste like restaurant quality with our marinade recipe!
Steak marinade doesn’t have to be complicated which is why I only use 5 ingredients and all of them are kitchen staples so you likely have them on hand.
Simply the best steak marinade ingredients
- Soy Sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
- Instant coffee or brewed black coffee
- Season Salt
Instant coffee is a great addition to not only marinade but rub recipes too. If you don’t have Instant coffee on hand, you can use brewed black coffee instead. Never use regular coffee grounds, they won’t dissolve quickly like instant coffee does.
I love using my Tupperware Meat Marinating container. When it is time to turn the meat, I just flip the container over! You can actually find these on Amazon now at this link. (affiliate) Tupperware products last forever and I just love them! Although Tupperware may not recommend it, I put mine on the top rack in my dishwasher.
You can cook steaks so many different ways but generally speaking, grilling is the most desired to retain the flavor of the meat. I am using an Indoor grill in the picture above. This one on Amazon is super nice and I have my eye on it for when mine gives out.
I always line the drip pan with foil for easy clean up. The indoor grill is great to use on a rainy day or for us here in the humid deep south, when it is entirely too hot to consider going outside. I set mine up next to the stove and turn in the vent fan .
Ways to cook steak
Steaks can be cooked a variety of different ways.
Grilled with either charcoal or gas heat which is the most preferred for home cooks
You can cook steak on the stove top in an iron skillet and you will get a delicious flavor from your meat.
Steaks can be cooked in the oven under the broiler.
The newest way to cook meat is Sous vide which we have not gotten into just yet but are considering it. If you have tried it, let me know how you like it. You vacuum seal your meat in a bag and then cook it in a water bath. This is a process which has been around a long time but only recently became available for home cooks. I have heard people say their steak is great but if you want grilled flavor, stick with a grill or sear your steak on the grill after the water bath.
Our favorite way to cook steaks at the moment is on our Blackstone grill after marinating them for a couple hours.
Does marinade help tenderize meat?
Yes, this marinade will help tenderize your steaks. The vinegar in the Worcestershire will help to make the meat more tender. With that in mind, the cheapest cuts of meat may be the most tough and turn out slightly tough no matter what. Furthermore, the doneness of the meat also affects how tough the meat is. The more near well done you get, the more tough the meat will be.
How long should you marinate steak?
For best results when marinating fresh steak, try to stick with about 4 to 6 hours, turning at least twice during that time. A minimum of 30 minutes in marinade is the least amount of recommended time. It is important to understand that leaving meat in marinade for too long will affect the outside of the meat making it mushy and have no positive affect on the inside. The marinade is only going to soak in so far but never all the way to the center of the meat. Keep in mind there is a difference between brining meat and marinating meat. Brine does take longer.
Can you reuse steak marinade?
No, not if raw meat has been sitting in it. If you have unused marinade which you saved and has not had raw meat in it, you can use it for a baste if you like. But never reuse marinade which has had raw meat sitting in it. There will be harmful bacteria which can make folks sick.
