Red White and Blue Tablescape Decor
Our Red White and Blue Tablescape Decor this year incorporates Hydrangea, Mini American flags, Coke glasses and Grandma’s afghan to create layers and set the mood. Noting fancy schmancy, just down home comfort using treasured pieces of decor.
Welcome to the Patriotic Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Chloe at Celebrate and Decorate. You will find Table Decorating Ideas shared all week from several countries including Italy, Canada and the U.S.A. There are so many useful ideas for creating your own around the table decor for celebrating with family and friends! All of the links are located near the end of this post.
I’m beginning my tablescape with an unusual table covering, an afghan my Grandma crocheted quite a few years ago while visiting my parents for the summer. I have tried to keep it safe but it has been stored in a linen closet far too long. It’s time to bring Grandmas afghan out and enjoy her handiwork!
Notice the layered place setting, no food should touch the afghan! Isn’t it funny that we stack the dessert plate on top when we are supposed to eat that last! Life is short, eat dessert first!
Each place setting begins with a sisal rope place mat followed by a white scalloped edge charger then a large red plate which is topped with a folded dish towel and finally a red and white stripe with blue stars salad plate.
From bottom to top are sisal rope, plastic, glass, fabric and melamine! Such a fun mix!
The hydrangea centerpiece was a super quick craft using a square red bubble glass vase and silk hydrangea. Nothing is more warm than a Hydrangea centerpiece in the summer!
The Confederate blue metal wire candles are usually on the mantle this time of year but I thought they would add a little flair to this Patriotic tablescape. Lighting the candles in the evening adds a touch of ambiance.
Red White and Blue celebrations in America call for Coca Cola so I pulled out my everyday glasses! Do you remember when a fast food restaurant sold these Coke glasses during the summer a few years ago? Now I see them in thrift stores all the time. We have them in a variety of colors but I used the pale green in this tablescape.
Layering creates a nice mood with tablescapes. Often I enjoy adding a few decorations between the place settings. That wasn’t necessary with this table decor because the afghan adds all of the personality this table really needed. It was a fun way to use a family heirloom.
Patriotic decor will grace our home throughout the summer until time for Fall which is my favorite season. We will enjoy a few family cook-outs, grill some burgers and hot dogs and enjoy the sights and sounds of the summer.

Such a lovely table, Shirley! I love all of the beautiful layers that began with your patriotic afghan. So clever! The colors and patterns came together beautifully to create a warm and welcoming table!
I love how you used the afghan and the pillows in the chairs! All so pretty and inspiring! So fun to hop with you!
Shirley, I’m sure your grandma would be so proud that you used her afghan. It is a great base for a 4th of July tablescape. You did a lovely job with your place settings and created a really festive feel on the table. Nice to have you join the tablescape blog hop.
Squeal! I love the afgham as tablecloth so much. Sentimental and ornamental! Your tablescape is lovely and the plates are perfect for this patriotic theme. It’s a pleasure to be on the hop with you. Hugs!
I share in your philosophy…..eat dessert first, and bring out things that are precious to us to be enjoyed rather than tucked away never to see the light of day! Using this red, white and blue afghan really packs a patriotic punch! It is the perfect back drop for your pretty plate stack. I love the scalloped edge chargers and the folded tea towels in different, yet complimentary patterns is lovely! And, those stars and stripes plates are so fun! It has been such a pleasure sharing in this blog hop with you this week!
Red, White and Blue perfection to celebrate the 4th! Your grandmother’s crocheted blanket adds a bit of sentimental history as well. Cute plate stack!! Have a fabulous 4th of July!!
Your patriotic layers are lovely! So festive and fun! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Thank you Cecilia. It was fun to put together.
I love your grandmotherโs red, white and blue afghan as a tablecloth! Love your philosophy too. . . ‘Life is short, eat dessert first”, a girl after my own heart. ๐ Itโs a treat to blog hop with you this week! Happy 4th!
Thank you Mary. Life is too short for a lot of things not the least of which is procrastinating dessert! I have very much enjoyed being a part of this blog hop and seeing so many beautiful tablescapes to welcome summer.
Shirley, I have to agree with the other ladies …your grandmother’s table covering is lovely….and you should be proud to display it. I have already voiced my like for a coke and when I saw you used coke glasses….I was jumping for joy. Your plate stack is great and I think the reason we use the dessert platte last is because secretly we want to eat our dessert first. LOL Of course I disguise my dessert plate as a salad platte and that way it sounds so much healthier to eat salad instead of dessert.!!!
Welcome to our blog hop…you will bring new inspiration to us I am sure.
Kari
Hi Kari, Likely it is only my family who thinks salad plates are for dessert because we tend to always go overboard when it comes to sweets. It was fun to see that so many ladies incorporated Coke into their 4th of July tablescapes! It was been so much fun being a part of this blog hop!
Shirley, I so love the vintage touches you’ve added to this tablescape with your Grandmother’s afghan! It is absolutely the star of this display! Vintage anything is one of my sweet spots, and to mix so easily as you’ve done is a great trait as a stylist, in my opinion. I do remember those Coca Cola glasses too, and had a few (can’t remember the restaurant – Arby’s??), and I was a recent supplier to the thrifting community when I purged mine in my recent downsize, lol.
This is my first visit to your blog, and am happy to get acquainted with you and your blog. Your mention of confederate candleholders didn’t go unnoticed by me, hehe, so dug deeper and see you’re from Georgia. Today is the day we celebrate my home state’s (West Virginia) 156th birthday. We are the Union state created during the Civil War by secession from Virginia. ๐ God Bless our UNITED States of America! I’m really enjoying everyone’s tablescapes. Welcome to this patriotic hop.
Hi Rita, It just so happens we are going to Virginia on vacation this year and it will be our first visit to the area. We plan to gorge ourselves on American history by visiting Williamsburg, Jamestown, Mt. Vernon and hopefully Monticello and perhaps a drive up to DC one day. I was born in Atlanta and have lived in Georgia most of my life except for a brief stint in Charlotte, N.C.
I think it was McDonalds who sold those glasses. I used to have some Christmas glasses which came from Arby’s though. They do that sometimes to
It was fun to use Grandma’s afghan as a table covering. I wouldn’t allow anyone to actually eat at the table while it was there though. I enjoyed sharing memories of Grandma with everyone that week. I am thrilled to be a part of this blog hop and have loved every minute visiting everyone’s blogs and being inspired by so much talent!
Welcome to the blog hop. How pretty to use your grandmotherโs crocheted blanket. A family treasure. My mom crochets too. The plates are lovely and perfect for this Patriotic table. The towels look fabulous beneath each place. Happy 4th.
Hi Linda, I am very happy to be a part of the hop! Thank you for your kind words. Dish towels are so easy to accumulate and use for cloth napkins in a tablescape and they add a little flair sometimes. I enjoy mixing the patterns.
The crocheted blanket is the perfect base for your patriotic table. I love a nice plate stack and yours is just right, incorporating all of the colors and patterns that remind us of Independence Day. The blue candleholders are a nice touch next to the white hydrangeas! Thanks so much for joining us for our hop!
Hi Chloe, thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a talented group of home decor bloggers. It has been the highlight of my week to visit each blog every day and see all of the creative ideas.
Your grandmother’s crocheted blanket is beautiful! Perfect table covering for a real feeling of family, country and history! Love your pretty plate stacks too! Happy 4th!
Hi Jenna, thank you for those kind words. It is fun to create those plate stacks, isn’t it! I think that is my favorite part of creating a tablescape!
