Red White and Blue Tablescape Decor
Our Red White and Blue Tablescape Decor this year incorporates Hydrangea, Mini American flags, Coke glasses and Grandma’s afghan to create layers and set the mood. Noting fancy schmancy, just down home comfort using treasured pieces of decor.

I’m beginning my tablescape with an unusual table covering, an afghan my Grandma crocheted quite a few years ago while visiting my parents for the summer. I have tried to keep it safe but it has been stored in a linen closet far too long. It’s time to bring Grandmas afghan out and enjoy her handiwork!
Notice the layered place setting, no food should touch the afghan! Isn’t it funny that we stack the dessert plate on top when we are supposed to eat that last! Life is short, eat dessert first!
Each place setting begins with a sisal rope place mat followed by a white scalloped edge charger then a large red plate which is topped with a folded dish towel and finally a red and white stripe with blue stars salad plate.
From bottom to top are sisal rope, plastic, glass, fabric and melamine! Such a fun mix!
The hydrangea centerpiece was a super quick craft using a square red bubble glass vase and silk hydrangea. Nothing is more warm than a Hydrangea centerpiece in the summer!
The Confederate blue metal wire candles are usually on the mantle this time of year but I thought they would add a little flair to this Patriotic tablescape. Lighting the candles in the evening adds a touch of ambiance.
Red White and Blue celebrations in America call for Coca Cola so I pulled out my everyday glasses! Do you remember when a fast food restaurant sold these Coke glasses during the summer a few years ago? Now I see them in thrift stores all the time. We have them in a variety of colors but I used the pale green in this tablescape.
Layering creates a nice mood with tablescapes. Often I enjoy adding a few decorations between the place settings. That wasn’t necessary with this table decor because the afghan adds all of the personality this table really needed. It was a fun way to use a family heirloom.
Patriotic decor will grace our home throughout the summer until time for Fall which is my favorite season. We will enjoy a few family cook-outs, grill some burgers and hot dogs and enjoy the sights and sounds of the summer.

I share in your philosophy…..eat dessert first, and bring out things that are precious to us to be enjoyed rather than tucked away never to see the light of day! Using this red, white and blue afghan really packs a patriotic punch! It is the perfect back drop for your pretty plate stack. Shirley, I have to agree with the other ladies …your grandmother’s table covering is lovely….and you should be proud to display it. I have already voiced my like for a coke and when I saw you used coke glasses….I was jumping for joy. Your plate stack is great and I think the reason we use the dessert platte last is because secretly we want to eat our dessert first. LOL Of course I disguise my dessert plate as a salad platte and that way it sounds so much healthier to eat salad instead of dessert.!!!

Shirley, I so love the vintage touches you’ve added to this tablescape with your Grandmother’s afghan! It is absolutely the star of this display! Vintage anything is one of my sweet spots, and to mix so easily as you’ve done is a great trait as a stylist, in my opinion. I do remember those Coca Cola glasses too, and had a few (can’t remember the restaurant – Arby’s??), and I was a recent supplier to the thrifting community when I purged mine in my recent downsize, lol.

Hi Rita, It just so happens we are going to Virginia on vacation this year and it will be our first visit to the area. We plan to gorge ourselves on American history by visiting Williamsburg, Jamestown, Mt. Vernon and hopefully Monticello and perhaps a drive up to DC one day. I was born in Atlanta and have lived in Georgia most of my life except for a brief stint in Charlotte, N.C.

Hi Linda, I am very happy to be a part of the hop! Thank you for your kind words. Dish towels are so easy to accumulate and use for cloth napkins in a tablescape and they add a little flair sometimes. I enjoy mixing the patterns.
