Frugal Fall Décor with Mod Podge & Heat Bond

Let’s make some Frugal Fall Décor with Mod Podge & Heat Bond! These will be fun projects for DIY loving home decorators. Not only are these two projects easy but they are especially frugal too.

I’m sharing two projects. The first project is a repurposed mayonnaise jar. It’s such a satisfying feeling to repurpose anything! The second project is an Easy No Sew Mantle Banner.

My Fall Napkin Vase sits amongst a collection of Fall décor on my mantle this season. It offers a soft glow with a battery operated candle in the evening to set a quiet mood in the den. (wink, wink).

I’m sparing you the step by step photos so I can share the gorgeous result photos instead. I’ll share the super easy instructions though.

Supplies

• 1 empty clean mayonnaise jar, qt. size
• 2 decorative napkins
• Mod Podge
• Embellishments of choice (I used raffia, burlap & a flower)
• Hot glue gun and glue stick

I picked up this package of fall color napkins at a craft store. This was my only expense in the project. Everything else was in my stash. They were $3.99 but I had a 20% off coupon!

Tear or cut pieces from the napkin for placement on the jar. I used large sections of the napkin for the main portion of the jar. I specifically tore off the large red flower for placement around the top of the jar as it would be showing above the burlap. Selecting that particular flower from the napkin is really the only reason I needed 2 napkins. I only used a tiny bit from the second napkin.

Follow the instructions on the Mod Podge for applying the napkin to the jar. For this project, I only applied 2 coats of Mod Podge. I didn’t want the jar to be too shiny. I love using Mod Podge, it reminds me of doing crafts in elementary school for some reason!

Attach the burlap using the Mod Podge as well. The Mod Podge will seal the edges of the burlap and prevent it from unraveling. Allow ample drying time, at least one hour.

Attach the sunflower using a dab of hot glue.

Tie the raffia around the neck of the jar and you are finished.

You could display flowers in yours and use it as a centerpiece and I may do just that next Fall.

Easy No Sew Fall Mantle Banner

My next project was my Easy No Sew Banner. My original instructions for making your own pattern are HERE where I shared my Tailgate Party Banner. Once you make your own pattern, you’ll want to keep that with your craft supplies to use again when the occasion arises.

Supplies for the Easy No Sew Banner include

• About 1/2 yard of fabric
• The pattern you have created from a single sheet of copy paper
•  String or yarn 
• Heat Bond.
• A pair of scissors
• Iron

The cost of your No Sew Banner will depend on if you already have some Heat Bond (see affiliate link below), which I did and how much the fabric you select costs. Since you only need 1/2 yard, your fabric will quite likely be under $5 for a cotton blend at most fabric or craft stores. Don’t forget to use a coupon!!

I wound up making 2 Mantle Banner’s, one for my home and one for my oldest daughter, Tresa. I chose the fun Candy Corn fabric for Tresa’s banner because they have a lot of festive fun décor since there are 6 children in their home.

This is just a little peek of Tresa’s Candy Corn Banner. I actually had some fabric left over which I used to make her some matching coasters and a pot holder.

My Mantle Banner is a pretty fall leaf pattern with sprinkles of gold which make it  a little shimmery. You may like to pop over and see my Dollar Store Décor Fall Copper Vase. Copper tones and shiny seems to be my theme this year.

I’ll be sharing the full view of our Fall Mantel décor in a few days. It all comes together in my Frugal Fall Décor for 2015. I have also taken some items from my fall décor stash to create a new wreath now hanging over the mantle,  which I’m looking forward to sharing.

Go plunder through your stash, find some goodies and start creating your own Frugal Fall Décor! If you don’t already have an empty mayonnaise jar, you could certainly use a Mason jar. I save my empty mayonnaise jars for just such an occasion as this. I love repurposing, don’t you!
