DIY Device Charging Station
My DIY Device Charging Station was made specifically for our guest room but it would be great for the office too. How often do you need to charge a device at work?
Our Thrift Store Decor Upcycle Challenge has become one of my favorite things to do here on the blog! It always provides me with a fabulous excuse to go thrift shopping, like I need an excuse!

DIY Device Charging Station
I’ve been wanting to make a charger station for our guest room for a long time. There was just never the right item in the thrift store that I thought would be perfect for my decor. Then I came across this old desk organizer and had that ‘aha’ moment I had been waiting for. This is one of those DIY projects which is not complicated, doesn’t require a lot of skill and is just down right fun to do.
Supplies
- Thrifted desk organizer $4.00
- Krylon Dual Superbond Leather Brown
- Rustoleum Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze
- DecoArt Acrylic Black
- Mod Podge
- Scrap piece of burlap
- Pretty picture from a magazine
Clean it up.
We always wash anything we purchase from a thrift store so that was my first step. It wasn’t really dirty so that was nice. I only paid $4 and I love the fact that this piece has a drawer which will be for cord storage.Â
Paint it.
Then a couple coats of Leather Brown spray paint gave it an updated look. I’m currently crushing on black and brown so I always have some in my stash. I used the black paint to outline the bottom edge and the front recessed design which you can see in the picture below.
I removed the drawer pull and spray painted it with the Rustoleum Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze.Â
My trusty companion is always by my side in the craft room. It seems like he knows when there will be pictures involved.Â
Fancy up the drawer.
There is a reason we hoard those magazines with pretty pictures, right! There is something special about lined drawers. I used a pretty toile craft paper to line the Jewelry Box Makeover project.
I sat the drawer over the floral picture in this old magazine and cut out a drawer liner which I then Mod Podged into place. Once the Mod Podge was dry, I gave it a top coat for sealing.
Do you save those teeny tiny pieces of fabric? Fortunately I have a nice place for them since my craft closet makeover.Â
I had saved a small piece of burlap which I used on the front of the drawer just to add a little personality. Mod Podge attached the fabric into place. I sat a book on it while it was drying. Then I added  a top coat of Mod Podge to seal it and keep the edges from fraying. I just love using Mod Podge!
It’s such an easy project involving a little paint and a little Mod Podge with big results! Now we just need a house guest to enjoy our new DIY charging station.
And now for more thrifty goodness!
Check out what my fellow upcyclers created below!
I like the idea of keeping it organized and the drawer is great for when the cords aren’t in use. Great idea.
What a fun makeover! Love it!
This is so smart! Who doesn’t need a charging station!? Pinned!
This is so cool! Very creative idea!
Great idea! I love the burlap you added to the front! 🙂
What an amazing idea! I’ll have to look for something similar next time in in the thrift store!
Very clever…..great organization idea as those charging cords and devices laying all over the place drive me nuts.
This little charging station is just perfect. I love the little drawer details too. Thank you so much for sharing.
Such a clever idea Shirley! My daughter could use one of these in her mess of a room.

What a great idea!
What a great idea! I need something for our kitchen counter where we charge our phones. This would be perfect. I bet your guests love that you provide this for them when they stay over!
I could sure use one of those! Great idea and perfect execution!

Such a great idea. I could use something like this in my bedroom.
What a great idea! I love that drawer!
That find was perfect for a charging station. I love that you also recycled an old magazine to line the drawers. Great makeover.
What a smart idea to turn this into a charging station! I’ve seen them plenty of times in thrift shops, and this is a clever use of it!
Great find, especially as it’s so practical. Seems like we always need more storage for our devices. Visiting from Thrift Store Challenge.
I need one of these. I like the paper lining the draws.
