Supplies I Used
- One thrifted set of vintage mushroom salt and pepper shakers
- DecoArt Christmas Red Acrylic Paint
- Apple Barrel Territorial Beige acrylic paint
- Dollar Store Puffy Stickers
- Rust-oleum Lacquer Spray
The price sticker says 3.99 but these babies were half price so cha ching! I instantly knew there would be Cheap Fairy Garden Mushrooms coming soon to my house when I saw these.
As with all thrift store purchases, I began with a good cleaning. They are pretty cool, aren’t they! As a product of the 70’s, I remember all the mushroom decor of those days.
All cleaned up and ready to paint, I began by giving the tops a coat of white as I knew those vintage colors would be hard to cover. After the white paint was completely dry, I placed the puffy stickers in random patterns on each mushroom.
Then the tops were painted Christmas Red and the bottoms were painted Beige. It still took about three coats of red even though I had used the white paint as sort of a primer. That vintage paint was really good!
Next I very carefully painted each of the puffy stickers white using a small brush. After all of the paint was dry, I finished off my new Fairy Garden Mushrooms with two coats of Lacquer.
They turned out great and fit well with a few of my large Fairy Garden pieces. This little Fairy Garden is situated in a pot of Geraniums which tend to lean forward reaching for the sun so the entire backside was begging for a Fairy Garden.
The flower container is an upcyle project using a vintage blue speckled canning pot. See that post here where you will find my trick for flower pot filler to save some bucks on soil.
