Yay for summer salads, right! Serve this Sweet & Salty Strawberry Watermelon Salad to your family and friends and you will become one of the fond memories of this summer!
The Summer Salad Series has me busy in the kitchen creating and researching lots of great salads! I have met quite a few really wonderful bloggers who are willing to share some of their best salad recipes with you.
Go here for the first post in the series which includes a Grilled Chicken & Black Bean Warm Salad and here for the second post with 14 Pasta Salads. Come back tomorrow for the next collection which will be Summer Fruity Salads. I created this yummy delight called Sweet & Salty Strawberry Watermelon Salad while preparing for the Fruity Salads post.
Let me tell you about the dish I served this salad in. I used to sell Watkins products back in the ’80’s. This dish is one in a set of 5 called Country Kids Collectors Recipe Plates. I had to serve my summer salad in the summer dish! There is a recipe on the back for Strawberry Pie. I do still have all 5!
I have a few particular recipes which I like to make in these dishes. Your guests don’t usually get to see the pretty pictures on the insides of your serving dishes so I had to share!
Sweet & Salty Strawberry Watermelon Salad
- 2-3 cups cubed seedless watermelon
- ½ cup thinly sliced red onion
- ¼ cup crumbles feta cheese
- 1-2 cups iceberg lettuce cut into chunks
- 5-6 fresh strawberries sliced thin
- ½ to 1 cup Sweet & Salty Pecans (find recipe at www.intelligentdomestications.com)
- Layer the ingredients into your serving platter beginning with the lettuce.
- Top the lettuce with the watermelon, then strawberries, onions and cheese.
- Top with the feta.
- Drizzle with your favorite fruity vinaigrette dressing, I use Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette.
- Serve and enjoy!
- Expect your guests to ask for seconds!
I’ve included a printable page for you to stick in your recipe collection binder.
Sweet & Salty Candied Pecans
Sweet & Salty Candied Pecans are not quite the same as the sugared pecans popular during the fall holiday season. These provide a little crisp sweetness amongst the salty flavors of the feta for the perfect flavor combination. This recipe is great to use for any salad you may be preparing that you’d like to add just a bite of sweetness to.
