What Is Trending On Your Blog ?

Sharing is caring!

Do you wonder exactly what is trending on your blog? Do you wonder which form of social media is netting you the most traffic?  If you’re anything at all like me, you check your stats daily. I like to know which form of social media is working the best, don’t you? I think all bloggers will agree that promoting blog posts takes more time than writing blog posts sometimes.

I don’t know about you, but for me, Pinterest is consistently my #1 Referrer. Regardless to what I am posting about, Pinterest drives traffic to my blog at a greater rate than any other form of social media.

Let's Talk About Top 10 Referrers to your blog. Learn more at www.intelligentdomestications.com

Recently as we all know, Facebook has made it increasingly harder for younger blogs to engage an active audience.

Likely due to frustrations with Facebook, there has been an upward trend towards Stumble Upon in the circle of bloggers that I tend to network with most often. I’m still new to Stumble Upon and learning the ropes over there. It is fun and I have seen some really interesting things to read. I’m happy to see SU in my top 3!

How to find your statistics in the WordPress Dashboard

I took all of the following screenshots from my dashboard. Your WordPress Dashboard may be slightly different because of a difference in themes. I clicked on the tallest bar which is the orange one in the top photo in the graphic. Clicking the bar will open a new window which is the bottom photo in the graphic.

It’s easy; click the bar, open a new window for more detailed statistics. AND THEN, for even more detailed information, click the + sign where available.  See graphic below.

1. Pinterest

If you are not yet using Pinterest analytics, you may want to consider taking time to get that added to your account. There is valuable information to be found relating to what your readers are Repinning. You will want to promote those posts which are currently trending from your blog.

Promote posts which are most active on Pinterest. Use Pinterest analytics to learn which posts are getting the most activity.www.intelligentdomestications.comNotice in the above graphic that my #1 repin in October is actually a Christmas post! The Christmas Party Games post has multiple Pins, all of which get Repinned. Yay for people who plan ahead!   I promoted the More Trunk or Treat Ideas post quite a bit when I realized it was getting so much traffic. I even opened up my Trunk or Treat Board on Pinterest for Group Pins. (I’d be happy to have to join)

The Plug in recommended to optimize blog and Pinterest together is Yoast.

2. Search Engine

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Again, Yoast is the plug in you will need for SEO on WordPress. Please do not be intimidated by the mere thought of SEO. It isn’t as difficult as it is made out to be. The main thing is to develop a good, searchable title. You want to use a title that folks will find when they conduct a random internet search or use hashtags on any form of social media. There is much more to good SEO but begin with those 2 things and grow from there. A good source of information on SEO can be found at Blogelina.com here.

3. Stumble Upon

My third top referrer for this particular day is Stumble Upon. I hope you will give it a try. Please go follow me here.

Facebook

Yay! People really do pop in from Facebook. It’s also # 8. Folks are visiting both through my mobile site which my Theme offers and through their PC.

Link Backs

Both, How Does She and Happy Money Saver are websites who shared my content and linked back to me. YAY! I appreciate that. How Does She is a larger blog and therefore the traffic I gained from that link was really HUGE! I thanked her on her FB page link to my post.

Twitter

Twitter is one super fast moving website!! I highly recommend using a scheduling site such as Hootsuite to post to Twitter regularly. Twitter is a good place to share your Giveaways. Revive Old Posts formerly known as Tweet Old Post is a good Plug In to use.

Twubs

Twubs and Twitter are good friends. I participated in a Twitter party through Twubs for Bloggers Get Social. I gained about 20 new Twitter followers during the 30 minute event! I was able to share a Blogger Opp from my blog and gained another participant as a result of sharing during that Twitter party. As you can see, it was in my top 10 referrers to my blog that day. Is a Twitter party worth your time? Maybe so. They give away prizes at Twitter parties too!

I hope that have found this information in some way helpful. I think we can all agree that blogging is a lot of hard work. Hard work does pay off though. I find blogging to be a lot of fun. My most favorite part is meeting nice folks like you!

  2. I am following you on SU now. It is also a major source of referral to me. But Facebook still is the number one in my case.
This week I hosted a Hangout on Air on SEO for beginners and my weapon of choice was also SEO from Yoast. It is really a great one.
    Thank you for joining #WednesdaysWisdom!

  3. I love this Shirley! My top referrer is Pinterest as well, but I wasn’t aware that I can dig down farther to see who is visiting 🙂 That’s exciting! I’ve never tried Stumble Upon, but a close second to my referrers is Instagram. I heard it’s good to pick two and really drive it. Thank you for this info!

  4. I have yet to find my footing in the world of pinterest and that is simply because it interests me the least. My traffic comes mainly from Facebook. I definitely have to look into how exactly pinterest works. I am clearly missing a large audience. Awesome post! 🙂

  5. Google is my top referrer and then next would be direct traffic. Pinterest gives me ok traffic but if I would put more effort into it I think my traffic there would become high.

  6. I don’t check my stats every day, but I use Google Analytics in addition to the Jetpack plugin. I only added Jetpack recently. It’s really fun to see what people are searching for when they happen upon my blog. 🙂 Google Analytics is the analytics that sponsors always ask for when they want my page views.

Pinterest and Facebook are usually my #1 and #2 traffic driver to my blog. They flip flop a lot! Stumble Upon has become #3, so that’s a good thing!

Great post, Shirley! Have a blessed and happy weekend!!

We enjoying hearing from you!
