DIY DEcorative Watering Can Flower Pot
You only need a few supplies. Chances are pretty good that you already have most of these items in your craft stash. I did.
- Galvanized watering can ($5 at Target dollar spot)
- Mod Podge (I used Outdoor Mod Podge)
- Pretty craft paper such as scrapbook paper
Easy project with my total cost only $5!
Begin by measuring and cutting your paper. I chose to leave a gap at the top and bottom of my watering can to show off it’s galvanized personality.ย
Apply Mod Podge in small sections as shown.
Because the watering can is more narrow at the top than the bottom, you will have to apply the paper in sections. ย I have 3 sections of paper on each side.ย
NOTE: You may not want a patterned paper if the process of matching up the design might be stressful. I will admit to questioning my choice of paper design. But I was determined to use paper from my stash and while there is plenty, it took me forever to select which one I wanted to use on this project.
I’ll show you how I matched up the sections below.
When placing each additionalย piece of paper, I matched the pattern as closely as possible. The important thing was trying to keep the ย at top and bottom all the way around. I wanted the galvanized metal to be exposed. My top gap is about 1 inch and the bottom is just under 2 inches.ย
How to hide the seams.ย
First, try to match your design as closely as possible when making the paper cuts. Be sure to have plenty of paper with your design.
Second, I cut out the roses from my extra paper and glued them in place along the seams. Placing the roses along the seams almost made the seam disappear.
TIP: Manicure scissors are great for cutting tiny designs in paper.
I used a contrasting paper design for the spout and the handle.
We are well on our way to decorating our outdoor space this spring.ย I plan to use my Decorative Watering Can Centerpiece on our deck dining table.
