Brown Sugar Cookies
Everyone loves these Brown Sugar Cookies we make for Christmas. These homemade cookies can be shaped by hand or cut out with cookie cutters for any occasion. We like to make them into Christmas Cut Out Cookies using the Gingerbread Man and Stocking Cookie Cutters.
This event is sponsored by Adams Extract and Millican Pecans. Recipes are my own.
We first tasted these Brown Sugar Cookies quite a few years ago when I used to host a Cookie Exchange Party during the holiday season. My daughter made these back in 2010 and the recipe has been in our family ever since.
We have joined a team of Foodie bloggers this week for Christmas Cookie Week. What does that mean? LOTS and LOTS of Christmas Cookie Recipes for you plus a nice little Giveaway opportunity! It is all explained further down.
A GOOD RECIPE FOR A COOKIE EXCHANGE PARTY
This picture is from the Cookie Exchange party in 2010 and was snapped with an actual camera before the fabulous cell phone photos with magically quality we have today.
We gave out a prize for the best decorated cookie display every year and Tresa always went all out with the decorating her basket. You can see her Christmas Brown Sugar Cookies are topped with green sugar sprinkles!
MY FAVORITE MIXER
It was only fitting that I bribed her to come over to my house and make a batch for the blog. This was her first time using my Kitchen Aid which I inherited from my Mother and I think she very much enjoyed the ease of making cookies with a good mixer. Kitchen Aid Mixers are in my opinion the best and I like all of these right here.
The dough will look like the picture above when you are ready to start rolling it out. It is sort of sticky, not dry.
ADAMS EXTRACT
A neat little trick to use when rolling out cookie dough is to cover it with wax paper and roll on top of the paper. Try that trick next time, it makes less mess on the rolling pin.
Thanks to Adams Extract for the delicious Vanilla Extract we used in this recipe. It is important to use good quality products when baking. They make your flavors pop.

SANTA WANTS THESE COOKIES
Santa might enjoy some of these yummy Brown Sugar cookies so you will have to hide some for him because they tend to disappear quickly.
We actually prefer these cookies plain because the flavor is so enjoyable but you can fancy them up with icing if you like. Let them cool first and I dare you not to eat one while they are still warm. Do you find it hard to let homemade cookies cool completely without eating one warm? Be honest!
The brown sugar makes a soft cookie. It isn’t gooey and it isn’t crispy. These cookies are the perfect amount of soft. Put on the coffee or pour yourself a glass of milk to enjoy these yummy Brown Sugar Christmas Cookies.
This is a good safe cookie recipe for gifting because everyone loves these!

Brown Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 Cup softened unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 Cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp. Vanilla extract
- 3 1/3 Cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°
Combine flour, soda and salt and set aside
Beat butter at medium speed until creamy
Gradually add brown sugar continuing to beat
Add egg and vanilla and beat well after adding
Begin adding the flour mixture a little at a time beating between each addition. If you add too much at one time it will splatter out of the mixing bowl
Once the cookie dough is ready, form it into a ball and wrap with plastic wrap then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to one hour prior to rolling out.
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll out to about 1/4" thickness on a large sheet of waxed paper lightly dusted with flour.
Cut the cookies out using your desired cookie cutters and place onto a baking pan which has been sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with parchment paper.
Bake about 10-12 minutes
Remove from oven and allow to cool before icing if you plan to ice them. We prefer them plain.

Prize 2 – Adams Extract Prize Pack
Adams traces its beginnings back to Battle Creek, Michigan, when John A. Adams began making and selling his Green Plant Sarsaparilla extract, Adamur, in 1888. In 1905, he moved his family to Beeville, TX. At the time, most vanilla sold to pharmacies and was often labeled “Do not bake or freeze.” John A. Adams’ wife yearned for a flavoring that wouldn’t bake or freeze out. He announced that he could produce a better vanilla than the one his wife was currently using. Working with just $6.71 worth of materials on top of an old icebox, John A. Adams discovered the formula he wanted. To test this product, his wife whipped up a cake for the family to try. “John, this is the BEST flavoring I have ever used,” she announced. “Well, that’s old man Adams BEST,” he responded.
