The Hot Dog Tour Stops in Roberta, Ga. at Hudson’s Bar-B-Q
Join my husband, Stacy and I as we enjoy the best local hot dogs on our journeys! Do you have a favorite local hot dog place? We are not world travelers. Truth is, we don’t stray too far from the deep south. But no matter how far we roam, we look for the local hot dog joint! Tell us where your favorite local hot dog place is and we may just drop in! Visit our Hot Dog Tour page to see where we have been.
Today I’m sharing a local place, near our home that we sometimes go to on Friday evenings.
Hudson’s Bar-B-Q serves deep fried hot dogs! They are not sitting on a roller or under a heat lamp. They cook those babies fresh when you order!
I always order a Stew dog and a Slaw dog. Now, some of you are asking right now, What exactly is a stew dog? They top that dog with Brunswick stew! Hudson’s is the only place so far that we have found a Stew Dog. Before finding it on their menu, I would never have considered topping a hot dog with Brunswick stew.
As you can see in the picture, the buns are toasted also! I am always claiming that I will order something different ‘this time’ when we meet friends at Hudson’s but alas, I just have to enjoy those deep fried yummy dogs! You will notice a distinct pattern on our hot dog tour, I always try the slaw dogs. Hudson’s makes good slaw so I always get theirs!
I guess you might say the décor is a bit rustic. If you have an aversion to taxidermy, you may want to consider that prior to entering Hudson’s. There is a whole lot of taxidermy hanging on the walls and sitting on the shelving around the restaurant.
What is the most unusual topping you have ever tried on a hot dog?

Wow! They look totally different from anything we would get over in the UK. Not sure about having stew on a hot dog but then you never know if you don’t try!
Amy Albers says
I would be all over that stew dog! That looks amazing!
Shirley Wood says
Amy, that does my heart good to hear you say that! It is actually very good 🙂

This is one day I could celebrate! I love hot dogs.. I try to eat the healthier versions of them..
The most unusual topping I’ve had would have to be salsa.
Shirley Wood says
We generally prefer beef only, Oscar Meyer bun length or Hebrew National or Nathans. Any one of those three brands is good for when we cook at home. We celebrated by enjoying those $1 Chili Cheese dogs at Sonic this evening 🙂

National Hot Dog Day! How fun! And I’ve never heard of a Stew Dog before LOL I’m not sure if I would like that or not!
Shirley Wood says
You will simply have to try the Stew Dog! It’s surprisingly good!
Ricci says
I LOVE hot dogs!!! I need to find a hot dog place like this near me, those look amazing!!!
Shirley Wood says
The local places are the best places for a good hot dog, Ricci!

I grew up in Georgia and have lived in the south most of my life and I have to say that I’ve never heard of a stew dog. I’ve eaten Brunswick Stew my entire life, but this is the first stew dog I’ve ever heard of.
I guess you can teach an old dog a new trick! I know it’s corny – but I just had to say it! 🙂
Shirley Wood says
Me too, Alli. I love stew when it is cooked right (everyone can’t do that!). When I saw the Stew dog on the menu, just had to try it! It is now one of my favorites!
