Cherry Blossom time is a pretty big deal in the Middle Georgia area which made it a great theme for our Women’s Ministry dinner when it was my turn to host several years ago. The pictures are absolutely beautiful and worth sharing. If you are looking for ideas for hosting a Women’s Ministry event, I hope you will find a few here.
I’d also like to share with you some of the things we did for this Girlfriends meeting. Do you remember when Women’s Ministry was called Women’s Ministry? It was shortened to WM’s, that’s cool, right? Now it is referred to as Girlfriends. No matter what it may be called in your church, I hope you are participating in some capacity and sharing in fellowship with other ladies.
This Cherry Blossom themed Girlfriends meeting was so much fun to plan and enjoy! We wanted to involve ladies who may not always participate or attend one of the Girlfriends events so we came up with some neat ideas. I hope you may be able to find some ideas here that you may be able to use.
We sought out volunteers to be the Hostess of each table. These are the ladies who really made this dinner so beautiful and fun! Each hostess was responsible for decorating her own table and inviting guest to sit at her table. Because they were responsible for inviting ladies to sit at their table, there was a great deal of conversations between ladies in the church. They really were able to connect with one another and invite ladies who did not always attend or may have never attended. Many of the table hostesses took it a step further and provided gifts for each of their guests. It was a lot of fun to see all of the different ideas implemented for their centerpieces and décor.
One of our ladies donated the use of her beautiful lime and fuchsia table cloth toppers which were alternated and placed on top of the round white tablecloths. She also loaned us her linen napkins. I took those home and folded them into an easy and classic fold. We used glass dishes with matching tea glasses. Another sweet lady allowed us to use her beautiful pink coffee cups. Paired with the creativity of each table hostess, all of the tables were just beautiful and created a nice ambiance.
Because we wanted everyone to enjoy their evening, we enlisted some waiters for the evening. There were three young men in the church who were willing to be waiters. We asked our ladies to leave a tip on the table for these young men which was a tremendous blessing to our waiters. These young men made the evening go smooth before the meal during set up, during the meal as excellent waiters and afterwards during clean-up.
We also enlisted a couple of our Senior citizens to plan and prepare the meal, my mother and a friend of hers. They were so excited to be able to feel useful. I knew they would prepare a delicious meal and enjoy the process and I was not wrong! My mother lived with me. I knew how she felt about not always feeling needed or useful. They planned the entire meal together and then we went shopping for the food. They were completely involved and in charge of planning and preparing the meal. Momma talked fondly of how much she enjoyed it afterwards.
We really had a wonderful time. It was a memorable evening. I’d like to add that it just so happens that I got a cast on my leg the day before this event! I had a heel spur which my doctor had been treating for some time. I practically begged him to do surgery but he insisted we could get rid of it without surgery. I had been coping with the pain for several months through all of the physical therapy. Pain makes people desperate, ya know! He told me he was going to immobilize my foot. I though he was going to tell me to go home and not walk for some amount of time. The cast kept my foot at an angle pointing downward so I couldn’t use my foot at all. It worked like a charm! I only had to wear it a few weeks and have never been bothered by the heel spur again. The cast slowed me down but my daughter and husband came to the rescue that night to pick up my slack. I still love them even more for helping!
