Chocolate Pound Cake Recipe

  • ½ Cup Shortening
  • 1 Cup Butter, softened
  • 3 Cups granulated sugar (I use Dixie Crystal)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 Cups All-Purpose flour, sifted
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ Cup cocoa
  • 1¼ cups milk
  • 1 tsp. chocolate extract
  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Beat shortening and butter on medium speed 2 minutes or until creamy.
  3. Gradually add sugar while continuing to beat for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Add eggs one at a time while continuing to beat.
  5. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa. Add to butter mixture alternately with milk beginning and ending with flour.
  6. Mix at low speed after each addition.
  7. Stir in the chocolate extract.
  8. Pour batter into a 9 or 10 inch Bundt pan or tub pan which has been greased and floured.
  9. Bake at 350° for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Oven temperatures vary. Cake is done when a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  10. Cool in pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes then remove from pan and cool completely on wire rack.
  11. Pour Chocolate Glaze over top of cake. Put on some coffee and invite some friends over!
