I love easy dessert recipes and the kids can help decorate this Thanksgiving candy turkey.
- Pre-packaged Rice Krispies Treats
- White candy melts
- Mini M&M’s, just the red ones (you can eat the rest)
- Candy eyes
- Candy corn
- Mini Reese’s peanut butter cups
- A Medium microwave-safe bowl for the candy melts
- A spatula
- Disposable counter covers or parchment paper for your work surface
Step by step directions plus a video below.
Prepare your workspace and gather all of the ingredients and tools. I recommend using these disposable counter covers.
Unwrap your pre-packaged Rice Krispies Treats. Cut them in half and then cut the four corners off each to make them rounded.
Note: I like them pie-shaped too but hubby was making these and he wanted them round. Food for thought, you can make them however you like them.
Create an assembly line with all of the components of each rice crispy turkey together. Once you begin to ‘glue’ the pieces onto each turkey with the melted white candy as the glue, the process with go quickly.
Step 3 Melting the White Candy Melts
Melt your white candy melts in the microwave. I only used about one-third of the bag for this rice krispies treats project.
Begin with half power at 15 seconds. Stir and then keep doing that in 15-second intervals. Once there are only tiny tidbits of the candy remaining, stop microwaving and stir until it all melts with the residual heat.
It is important that you melt chocolate or candy melts on half power in the microwave. The candy can seize and have to be thrown away if it overheats. It is best to go slow.
Spoon the melted candy into a small Ziploc bag, squeeze it down into one corner and snip off the corner for piping. You will want a small snip for a small hole, not a big hole.
Now you can begin decorating each edible candy turkey by adding the tail feathers first, also known as candy corn.
Next add the mini Reese’s cup for the nose. Then add the mini red M&M for that thing under the turkey’s neck which is called a wattle.
Finally, add those edible candy eyes on top of the Reese’s peanut butter cup.
Allow your adorable Thanksgiving Turkey Rice Krispies favors to sit for a while to allow the candy to harden and hold its pieces in place. I wonder what the kids will eat first?
Rice Krispies Treats Turkeys are quick to make and fun to eat. These no-bake Thanksgiving treats are made with a shortcut so you don’t need the stove. They can be made a day in advance and are cute on the kids table for Thanksgiving.
Homemade is good but sometimes a shortcut in the kitchen is what we really need to make life easier. Making fun desserts for the kids using store-bought rice krispies treats makes you a smart cookie.
