Simple Ingredients
You have got to love an easy no-bake dessert with only three ingredients. All of these ingredients are easy to buy. FYI, Michael’s carries a large variety of candy melts in many colors plus a huge selection of candy sprinkles. (affiliate links included)
- Pre-package Rice Krispies Treats
- White candy melts
- Black gel icing (or miniature chocolate chips)
Tools Used
- Medium microwave-safe bowl for the candy melts
- A spatula
- A small kitchen knife or a paring knife will work
- Disposable counter covers or parchment paper for your work surface
Step 1
Prepare your workspace and gather all of the ingredients and tools. I recommend using these disposable counter covers.
Step 2
Unwrap your Rice Krispies Treats and line them up for the process of turning them into ghosts.
Next
Make a series of four cuts on the bottom of each rice crispy treat to create the flowing tail of the ghost. It will resemble an ‘M’. See the video for a demonstration of this simple process.
Step 3 Melting the Candy Melts
Melt your white candy melts in the microwave. Begin with half power at 15 seconds. Stir and then keep doing that in 15-second intervals. Once there are only tiny tidbits of the candy remaining, stop microwaving and stir until it all melts with the residual heat.
It is important that you melt chocolate or candy melts on half power in the microwave. The candy can seize and have to be thrown away if it overheats. It is best to go slow.
Coat the Rice Krispie Ghost in melted white candy
Dip the top of the rice crispy into the melted candy to coat the top. You will need to use the spatula to smooth out the surface. Set each one aside to dry before adding the eyes, if using gel icing for the eyes. They dry quickly.
Step 4
Using the black gel icing, give each ghost a set of dark eyes. Set aside to dry. It takes gel icing a little while to dry so set them all aside but do not stack them on top of one another.
Optional eyes
You could also use cookie icing or mini chocolate chips for the eyes. If using mini chocolate chips, add them while the white icing is still wet as it will be the glue to hold the eyes into place.
Serve and enjoy!
