After cleaning homes professionally for more than 18 years, we developed a few tips and tricks. Use our tried and tested tips to take the drudgery out of spring cleaning your own home. Print the free checklist with boxes you can take pleasure in checking off as you finish each task!
Though commonly called “Spring Cleaning”, we always called them “Ceiling to Floor” cleanings because we would be hired to do them anytime of the year. Regardless to the name, our tips have worked for us through the years to take the drudgery out of spring cleaning.
Dress in your favorite stay-at-home pants and an old t-shirt.
Have you ever heard that if you fail to plan, your plan will fail? That is true for spring cleaning also. Go into it knowing which chores are the most important to get accomplished and do those first.
It is important to have a good team and delegate. Give each person a list of chores they will be responsible for in each room. i.e., one person will be washing door frames, doors, window framing and window sills throughout the house. Another person might be cleaning all the baseboards, and mopping. You get the idea.
Crank up your favorite get-moving music, loud
We work faster and more cheerfully while listening to some upbeat music. Create a playlist before spring cleaning day to get the crew pumped. Headphones are a necessity!
Plan a nice lunch break
Plan ahead to provide a nice lunch break for yourself and your helpers. They are probably all your family members and you already know what they like to eat. A quick fun lunch which is filling but not too much so. Do something you can make ahead like sandwiches and chips. Pizza delivery is a good option.
Provide a realistic checklist of chores
Make your own or download our realistic checklist of things you want cleaned and disinfected on your spring cleaning day. There is a great deal of satisfaction to be derived from actually making those check marks on a list so let each person on your team have that pleasure. It’s such inspiration!
Use the right products
Your spring cleaning chores will be done quicker and easier when you use the right products. Lysol All Purpose Cleaner is my choice to clean and disinfect anytime but especially while spring cleaning. Did you know that Lysol kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria*? Buy Lysol here. (affiliate link)
Spray your cleaning cloth with Lysol All Purpose cleaner and quickly clean and disinfect every light switch plate in your home.
Long before we started our cleaning business I was using Lysol products to clean and disinfect my own home. Of course, Lysol was our first choice to use in our clients homes and offices. Anytime we interviewed a new client, we asked their preference of cleaning products and Lysol was always at the top of the list for cleaning and disinfecting.
Use the Right Tools
Put your vacuum cleaner to work for you! Use all of those attachments that came with it to eliminate some of the elbow grease. The vacuum will also suck the dust right out of those cracks and crevices easily.
Assemble a well stocked cleaning tray for each person on your team.

He loves laying in that sunbeam every morning on the sofa. He has no idea how often I spray the sofas, chairs and beds where he likes to nap with Lysol Max Cover Disinfecting Spray.
