You can take the drudgery out of spring cleaning with our easy tips.
After cleaning homes professionally for more than 18 years, we developed a few tips and tricks. Use our tried and tested tips to take the drudgery out of spring cleaning your own home. Print the free checklist with boxes you can take pleasure in checking off as you finish each task!
Though commonly called “Spring Cleaning”, we always called them “Ceiling to Floor” cleanings because we would be hired to do them anytime of the year. Regardless to the name, our tips have worked for us through the years to take the drudgery out of spring cleaning.
Dress Comfortably
Dress in your favorite stay-at-home pants and an old t-shirt.
Prioritize
Have you ever heard that if you fail to plan, your plan will fail? That is true for spring cleaning also. Go into it knowing which chores are the most important to get accomplished and do those first.
Delegate Duties
It is important to have a good team and delegate. Give each person a list of chores they will be responsible for in each room. i.e., one person will be washing door frames, doors, window framing and window sills throughout the house. Another person might be cleaning all the baseboards, and mopping. You get the idea.
Crank up your favorite get-moving music, loud
We work faster and more cheerfully while listening to some upbeat music. Create a playlist before spring cleaning day to get the crew pumped. Headphones are a necessity!
Plan a nice lunch break
Plan ahead to provide a nice lunch break for yourself and your helpers. They are probably all your family members and you already know what they like to eat. A quick fun lunch which is filling but not too much so. Do something you can make ahead like sandwiches and chips. Pizza delivery is a good option.
Provide a realistic checklist of chores
Make your own or download our realistic checklist of things you want cleaned and disinfected on your spring cleaning day. There is a great deal of satisfaction to be derived from actually making those check marks on a list so let each person on your team have that pleasure. It’s such inspiration!
Use the right products
Your spring cleaning chores will be done quicker and easier when you use the right products. Lysol All Purpose Cleaner is my choice to clean and disinfect anytime but especially while spring cleaning. Did you know that Lysol kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria*? Buy Lysol here. (affiliate link)
Spray your cleaning cloth with Lysol All Purpose cleaner and quickly clean and disinfect every light switch plate in your home.
Long before we started our cleaning business I was using Lysol products to clean and disinfect my own home. Of course, Lysol was our first choice to use in our clients homes and offices. Anytime we interviewed a new client, we asked their preference of cleaning products and Lysol was always at the top of the list for cleaning and disinfecting.
Use the Right Tools
Put your vacuum cleaner to work for you! Use all of those attachments that came with it to eliminate some of the elbow grease. The vacuum will also suck the dust right out of those cracks and crevices easily.

Great tips! I definitely love to delegate. If everyone made the mess, everyone gets to help clean up. I also like to “delegate” bigger tasks to professionals. I hate shampooing the carpets so I have the professionals do it. I’ve never had a maid clean the entire but I definitely consider it some days!

I like the delegate duties tip! Seriously, though we all probably dislike cleaning but the house always smells and looks so good after a good Spring Clean. Thanks for sharing your tips with us at #overthemoon link party. Hope to see you next week. I”ve pinned and shared.

These are great tips. I am working on thoroughly cleaning every room in our house which is taking some time with my two little helpers tearing up the rest of the house while I work 😀

These are great ideas! I just did a massive cleaning of my house because we were having people visit and I agree with this list you made. I always have to have music on while I clean and breaking up the jobs into smaller sections helps a lot.

Planning ahead, such a good idea. I tend to have a bit of ADD when it comes to cleaning my house. I focus on one spot in a room, then forget about it and go to another completely different task, it’s terrible lol.
Liz Mays says
I think you have the right ideas. I”m not looking forward to spring cleaning but I can certainly make it easier on myself.
Renz says
I think I end up with too many breaks. Lol. But then I properly need to plan better. Loud music is a must though. Thanks for sharing these tips

These are all great tips. Music is the only thing that can get me through cleaning.

I crank up the music when I have to clean. Something about singing and dancing makes it less blah!

I always keep Lysol on hand. As for making cleaning fun that is all in the music I play.

I keep my house stocked with Lysol. It always helps me feel like my home is clean!

Thanks for the Lysol coupon! I am about to start spring cleaning in a couple of weeks and am already getting my lists together. I wish I could delegate, but it’s just me and my hubby. Lucky for me, he’s not afraid of a little housework.

Turning up the music is a great idea. I always rope my husband and son into helping me. With three of us, we knock out the cleaning pretty quick.

Thanks for the tips! I started my spring cleaning this past weekend… but quickly became unmotivated LOL. Going to try to tackle it again this weekend, keeping your post in mind 🙂

Yup! I can see how cranking up the music will make a tedious task like cleaning the house just that much enjoyable. I like the idea of delegating duties. Great ideA!
Shirley Wood says
I just love to clean house with the music loud! As a product of the 70’s, that’s my fav music to clean to. 😉
