My husband has declared 2014 as the year of Organization and good health for us! I’m proud of him for setting goals. We never make New Year Resolutions. These are not resolutions, these are our goals.
We have our house on the market so staging in important. Organization plays a major role in having your house properly staged! We both would like to be more healthy so here we go boldly entering 2014!
How do we intend to achieve our goals this year? First we must start with prayer and trusting God. We know that God wants us to be healthy people. I Corinthians 3:16-17 tells us that we are the temple of God. We must not destroy that temple with our unhealthy behaviors.
Walking, almost daily, is at the top of our to-do list. Why almost daily? Let’s be realistic. When you set unrealistic goals, you do not achieve them which leads to abandoning goals altogether. We must take baby steps to begin with and work up to longer work-outs. 30 minutes at the gym in the beginning will lead to a good hour long workout three times per week. Sounds easy, doesn’t it. We lived in Biloxi, Ms. for several months a few years ago for my husband to do some job training at Kessler Air Force Base. During that time, I went to the gym twice per day and went walking every morning also. Yes, that was a bit like a self imposed boot camp but I did lose weight! We walked in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5k together.
It was awesome until I developed a heel spur. That hurt. Don’t over do it, ya’ll. Be reasonable with not only how often but for how long each time you exercise. I went through the physical therapy and all of the recommended treatments for that heel spur. Eventually my Ortho doctor put my leg in a cast for a few weeks which did finally make the spur go away.
We have already started our organization process. I signed us up to participate in the 16 week Home Organization Challenge with Renee at Renew Your Space. Because we listed our house for sale several months ago, we have been organizing, cleaning, donating and storing for a while now. We think we have a head start on the Challenge, we shall see!
Yesterday, while cooking New Year’s dinner, I cleaned this little corner of my seasoning space cabinet.
The extracts behind the bin. It could easily become a disaster while trying to gently move the bin to get to the extracts.
Apparently the ‘expiration police’ had not visited lately because there were more than a few items well passed their expiration date! I am all of 5’0″ tall so everything in the world is over my head. Reaching into this cabinet to lift that bin for access to the extracts would easily become a small disaster. Placing the extracts next to the bin makes life so much easier in this tiny little corner of my kitchen world!
Notice to the left, I used a small plastic bin to containerize the small extracts. Those are so much more easily accessible now!

We are looking forward to a wonderful 2014 as we work to improve our health and become better organized in our personal space!
